Hey slapshot, what are you going to do with the louver things? I was actually thinking about putting them on my 94. Can you take a picture of them and post?

I know this is off the subject, but I just wanted to compliment your taste on your choice of vettes. Here is a pic of mine. Just like yours, but a six-speed.

Hey slapshot, no problem, I have been busy and this isn't the most important thing in the world. Whenever you get around to it.:)

....Question.....where in the world are the speaker amps hidden???????????? I took the covers and speakers out of the front passenger speaker, but didn't see it anywhere.

From what I hear, Bose replacement is a PITA. Is it as simple as using an aftermarket harness to the new headunit and then just running new speaker wire to bypass the speakers and amps?? I hope so, this Bose is junk. But, I also don't want to shell out hundreds of $$$ to my local radio shop to do something I can handle.
The Bose amps is ON the speaker plates. Where the speakers screw into. They look like circuit boards. As for putting together a hybrid system using both aftermarket and factory, I'm told it's not worth the effort. Some say it won't work! Either completely rebuild/replace the factory system, or replace the whole system with aftermarket altogether.

I too have the crapy Delco/Bose Gold stereo that hasn't worked right since who knows when. I've been putting aside a sound system restoration or replacement. Can't make up my mind. Either way, it's going to cost me the same. About $1,000 give or take $100.

You see, my Bose amps are ALL dead. So to replace them, it's going to cost me $550 (all 4). Then, my CD player gave up the ghost. That's another $299 if I get it rebuilt. Well, there you go.

If I replace my whole system with a modern one, Pioneer CD Receiver with Mosfet Amps, 4 speakers, plus professional labor, the cost is about $900. So there.

Quite frankly, I'd rather go with complete replacement so I can play MP3's, WMA's, as well as standard CD, plus Satellite Radio. Unfortunately for my Vette, I hardly listen to music anyways. :eyerole So the impetus to go ahead with either is not very strong.

That's what my plan is now, all of the Bose crap is coming out. For me do to it myself I'm looking around $600-$650, for the local shop to do it, it's $790 OTD. I think they're gonna do it. They have done lots of Vettes and have one in thier showroom. They know the Bose system. That includes a Pioneer cd/mp3 player, 2 6.5" speakers in front and 2 6.5" speakers in rear, and a new amp. Also inlcudes all installation materials and labor. To me, it's worth it just so I don't have to deal with it. he said it's the better part of a day to install it all.

Tom, I have pix now. I will upload them tonight. The car was at the radio shop yesterday. Stereo came out GREAT!!!!

If you want to email them to me directly you can do that too. Glad the stereo came out well for you!

Fx3

I had a 92 FX3 Convertible. (on Touring) It handled better than my 95 without FX3.:confused

Here she is......wetsanded, buffed 2 times, and 5 coats of Zaino.......

My to-do list is actually getting shorter. I just got new front and rear emblems from Ecklers, they are installed. I also got a new passenger door outer window seal and serpentine belt, they need to be installed.

After that, I'm going to change the oil over to Mobil 1, change the fuel filter, and check everything else. It runs really good, so I'm not expecting any problems. May change some things, like plugs, etc, just to get new ones in there. I just have the interior to finish cleaning, the seats need some leather treatment/cleaning, and the carpet needs some cleaning in places.

Overall, I'm REALLY happy with the car. I'm still getting used to it since I only drive it every few days, if that.

I would be very careful in changing the oil over to Mobile 1.....how many miles are on the car and what type of oil has been used in it....that is very important....get some local advice befor doing this.....it could ruin your motor....the compresson rings might calapse leaving you with no compresson....be careful...
hope this helps
Mike

Slapshot, that RED looks great! Zaino rocks.

I have changed a number of my cars over to Mobil 1 with over 100,000 miles on them, never has caused me any problem. I won't run anything but mobil 1. If you just bought the vette I would change the oil to a good high detergent oil with an additive for about 1000 miles first. Helps clean things a little . Then go to the Mobil 1. I just don't trust my engines to anything less. My 89 Riv has 208,000 on it got it with 100,000 on it and changed it over. At this time it leaks about 1/2 qt in 3500 miles from the valve covers . I fail to see where changing over can cause a problem. :)

:v She looks great! when can you do mine ? ;)

Thanks...

Tom, email me directly and I'll send you the pix of the rear. I got the new screws and the louver things are off now.

A couple easy questions....

1) is it OK to jack the car up on one side, somewhere in between the wheels, to change the oil. I've heard you don't want to jack up just one corner. I have a 5 ton jack and can jack the entire side to even out the load.

2) where is the darn fuel filter????

Wow!

Very nice and a pleasure to share your newfound excitement.

WELCOME, btw.

car jack

Just be very careful in jacking the car up and placement of floor jack, shortly after I got my 95 this year punched a small hole in the floor where the jack was in a little too far. Now I use a hocky puck on the floor jack. Nice work on the paint I use 3m products but I did use Zaino on my VR4 when I had one and may to back that. Good luck.

feel free tocall me if i can help. I work for a chevy dealer and we can put the car in the computer and check the service history. toll free 888-207-1865

Just ask for mike carr
