I am replacing my Temp. gauge in my 66 and had noticed some pictures in the past of members using long threaded rods to hold up their Dashes while they worked on items behind the dash. They were just able to slide the dash forward for access.

What type of Rod was used, Length, diameter, Thread etc.

I am hoping that this tip will make this job a lot easier to complete.

Many thanks,

Nick

I used simple threaded rod for mine. It worked very well. I don't remember the thread size, but if no one else answers I'll dig around for the answer.

I picked up two three-foot long sections at a local auto supply store (Canadian Tire ;) ) and cut them into five foot-long pieces.

You can get the all thread at almost any hardware store. The thread size is 1/4-20... It definately makes dash removal/installation/troubleshooting much easier... If you are only need a little room you don't even need to pull the steering wheel.. Dave...

I use 1/4"-20 x 8" bolts and cut the heads off, or you can use pieces of all-thread; I prefer the bolts, as they have short threads and a long unthreaded smooth shank to move the cluster on.
