Lose the badge?

Ever since I got my car I've been thinking about losing the badges on the side of the hood. If it didn't already have them, I would definitely not add them. But I go back and forth on whether to remove them.

I kind of like it sometimes, but I think the side would look cleaner without them. Plus it would be easier to detail the car... I dunno... The car didn't originally have them, though. They didnt' show up until the 1992 model year.

In some way I feel like it makes the side view of the car seem special, but at the same time, people who know what the car is probably don't need to see the badge to know. And people who don't won't know anything about it anyway. The thing is, is if I don't take it off, I can always do it later. But if I take it off, I doubt I'd ever put them back on.

The badges look very nice on your car, Aurora.

Just my humble opinion, something keeps bugging me that they are not original. I noticed that your rims are the five spoke, they look good too. BUT... the rims can always be swapped for the ’90 sawblades with out any ill effects. The area under the ZR-1 badges; could they discolor from the rest of the car over time so that you would see some sort of remanence from the badges in your paint should you decide to remove them? The sun tends to eat red alive, but your Z looks pristine, so I doubt sunfade is an issue.

LOL... Then I'd need a new license plate (32V LT5). I think it's weird when the plate says something that's already said on the car. That's why I didn't want "ZR1" in the plate.

Leave them on. It's easier to see when you are next to them and pulling away then for them to see the one on the rear after they give up trying to beat you!

:W I sure as heck hope no holes were drilled! I think I'll probably take them off this weekend, but I can't say for sure. I keep flip-flopping. They do look cool, but the car would look cleaner without them.

Alright, I appreciate the opinions. I agree that the badge is kind of cool. It's just that it clutters the side a bit, and I don't like detailing around it.

I opened up Photoshop, and wiped it out in a new layer of that side picture I posted above. Then I could flip back and forth, back and forth between badged and no badge. I just think it looks cleaner with no badge, and it still looks cool with the curved out back end and the 5-spokes. Anyone familiar with "ZR-1" could probably guess that it is one in spite of no badge (the bumper badge is still there). Anyone not familiar won't know what the badge means anyway.

Another factor is that I'd like to get one of those front license filler plates that has "ZR-1" molded into it instead of "Corvette" molded in. So it seemed like that might be a little too much, having the name in four places.

So thanks for the opinions, but I just cut the badges off today.
