Lost Hood Emblem

Met another 81 owner last night and after our discussion she needed to know where a hood emblem could be found because while parked sombody borrowed the one from her Vette. They didn't leave a name or address so one can assume its been stolen. I explained how rare they are and where a replacement could be found (Carlisle). I guess almost all Vette owners are honest or this was someone who knew they could make a few bucks from it.

Could have came off on the drive, could be some punk wanting a souvinier, or it could have been someone looking to hawk it or put it on there car.

Bastards.

Either way, the thought of putting a $100 bill on the nose of my car is scary, thus my new unused emblem sits and collects dust.

check out ebay, look in 1981 corvette or 81 corvette. I have seen a couple on there in recent weeks.

My rear "Corvette" script emblem showed up missing 2 summers ago. I like to think it just got loose and fell off, but you never know. It was easy enough to replace at at Zip Corvette. Here
But upon looking there again, the 1981 Nose emblem doesnt seem to be available. Does anyone know why the 81 Nose badges are so limited?

Well i just recieved a new catalog from Ecklers (2004 C3 Specialty Catalog no. 354) and in there it is listed under Front Emblems, 1981 "Cross Flags" Emblem [Blk Edge], part number A2053 for $29.99. I just checked their website and there was nothing listed for that part number, but you could try giving them a call at 1-800-327-4868 and giving them that part number.

Maverik, I just got to reading my new Eklers catalog last night and thought that the $29.99 was a misprint. Think I will order one and put it on the shelf for a just-in-case episode. Would like to know if that price is real or not??????

Eckler's hasn't had 1981 nose emblems for at least 18 months. My nose emblem was cracked and faded. After checking with close to 100 vendors none was to be found. I checked with E-Bay numerous times. When you can find them on E-Bay the opening bid usually starts at $100. My solution was to take the emblem off the car using 3M adhesive remover. I then soaked the emblem in adhesive remover to separate the flags from the metal part. I painted the metal part the correct flat black, bought a new 1980 nose emblem, used the adhesive remover to separate the 1980 emblem and contact cemented the 1980 flags into the 1981 metal emblem body. It's been on the front of my car for a year and it looks perfect. I know this seems like alot of work, but considering the alternative, it's the only viable solution.

I always find one every year at Carlisle for a few dollars. Eventually someone needs one and I just give it away (a small perk for being in the L81 Registry). Unfortunately my spare is gone, but Carlisle is only right around the corner.

I will be looking for an extra one also, I was lucky that I found a new one there 2 years ago, so I will search for a replacement for a friend and maybe pick up an extra too if available just in case.

Hi All

Went to Carlisle and went to every booth looking for an 81 nose emblem and came up empty, it would be easier to find chickens teeth than this emblem. Nut went looking for one also and he came back empty handed too.

I heard that Werners Vette Parts has on their web site that they have a (1) NOS emblem on their shelf for $75.00. They are located in Port Orange Florida well that is if the hurricane doesn't relocate them. The part number they show id 314030129 and their phone number is 1-888-844-8388.

I have a new one for my Vette when she gets herself repainted maybe next year, so if this helps someone great but beware and make sure that if they do in fact have one, ask for a picture of it. Just my 2 cents.
