I was just doing some amrchair racing in my head and I began to wonder which would come out on top, the 436hp LS3 C6, or the 405hp DOHC LT-5 ZR-1.

On paper, it would apear that the LS3 would win. 31 more horsepower, and a couple hundered pounds lighter, it seems obvious. Has anyone raced a ZR-1? Care to share your experiences?

I can think of someone who purports to own a red 1990 ZR1. Perhaps we should arrange for a drag race day with you and this 'alleged' ZR1, Jason. Whatever the outcome, we may finally get video evidence that this 'mythical' ZR1 actually exists.

...stock to stock and with equal drivers C6 LS3's smoke C4 ZR-1's.

"Smoke"?

That implies the 2nd gen ZR-1 would get blown into the weeds and is unlkely.

Reality is that given that both cars are stock, well driven, the ZR-1 is a 93-95 and the C6 is a manual trans car, the C6 would win but not by much.

A good running 405-hp ZR-1 when driven right and on fresh tires, could go 12.8-13.0.

In a practical sense, if the race were run today, the hard-part would be finding a stock 93-95 ZR-1 that is "good running".

I always find these armchair speculations amusing. In the absence of an actual race, no one will ever know for sure.

Yup, that is why I posed the question: "Has anyone raced a ZR-1?" I too am looking for proof, not just armchair speculations.

Patrick, I like your suggestion. Perhaps we can arrange for this "mythical" ZR-1 to show up at some large gathering of CAC people. Perhaps next June sometime?
