Ok so here is the situation.
i just got in a LS6 intake for my 454. It is going to get matched to a set of rectangle port brodix race rite heads.
here is the issue.
there is no place to screw in my temp sender.

on my current intake, the temp sender is screwed on the top of the intake beside the hole the thermostat housing bolts to.

here is my question.
can i drill and tap the water jacket in this LS6 intake for the temp sender.

or

the water bypass hose between the pump and the intake. i have read that if you have a thermostat with a hole drilled in it you can remove that bypass hose and plug the holes.
i could use the hole in the intake for the bypass to screw in the sender if i can indeed stop using that.

i have looked all over the heads for a place to screw in the sender but there are no plugs period on these heads for a place like that.

while i am at it,
on the torker II i have now i bought the intake used with a plaster of paris plug in the exhaust crossover.
is that advisable in the LS6 intake as well. i know that the crossover is there to help warm the intake on cold days with the divorced choke.
i have a holley carb, no choke,

i just wanted to verify that the crossover worked the same as the edelbrock intake i have now before i block it off.

BRODIX RACERITE HEADS

BAXOM, Do you have these heads already? I have temp port on side of head above exhaust ports just like stock. On thermostat issue, dont eliminate bypass hose with thermostat that has hole drilled in it, (not enough cooling volume especially at idle) pm me and let me know about heads. Even on brodix website, it shows temp port on side of head.

thanks again,
the heads i have now are 427 heads that dont have the temp port.
i dont have the brodix heads yet. they wont ship until mid june from summit. i am glad that you popped up so i now i wont do something silly.

any insight on the exhaust crossover

EXHAUST CROSSOVER

Have same manifold as yours. (check out new member thread NEWBIE FROM WISCONSIN Had my manifold welded up in the crossover and still used blockoff plates to keep heat from getting to gasket surface.

cool thanks
i didnt seal off the intake i have now, it came like when i bought it so i wanted to ask first.
now i just need to wait for my heads to come in,

I just checked my Summit catalog and it shows the Brodix Race Rite heads as oval ports.
yes but part # 2061012 are 115cc rectangular ports. they are not listed in the website or catalog but are available when you talk to the brodix rep directly. summit has them when you search by the part number but they are special order and not for immediate shipment.

OK,I found them. I wanted to see how big the intake ports were(294cc).Seems like a real nice set of heads.

i hope so, i got the 115cc chambers to try and keep the compression up since i am still using the stock pistons.

i am matching it with a magnum 270h from comp (i dont trust the xe)and the LS6 intake manifold.

coincindently the LS6 intake is so low that if i put a 3/4 inch spacer under the carb i still get the same A/B measurement as the torker II

If you had to special order them, could you have had Brodix make you a set with a smaller combustion chamber?

i talked to them today as a matter of fact.
they can make me the rectangular port heads to fit the LS6 intake with 110cc chambers.
they estimated the CR to be 8.75:1 with those heads and a .039 gasket
desktop dyno is projecting 415hp/513 ft/lbs with these heads and cam choice.
