hi guys,i'm usually on the c3 side but i have a question regarding the lt1 engine.
how many ponies in an lt1(guess that's an important question.)
a friend of mine owns a taxi business and buys a lot of old police and rcmp cruisers.right now he has 3 lt1 engines sitting in his shop. these motors failed (rings, crank, and one big time dead).he's wealthy so he has no interest in building one (he could buy a new vette if he wants)and for a cab, he only needs 305's and can buy them cheaper than fixing an lt1.
for a rebuildable lt1 engine wich needs all new guts, what is it worth??the guy is probably going to give me one,but just in case, what's it worth??he also said he has all the computer stuff for it to be hooked up,and anything else i need.
just want to get a price range for a rebuildable engine so i don't pay too much.
thanks again, mike

In those conditions; I would say a few hundred bucks. SBC's aren't that expensive to buy these days. Now if he were giving one to you; that would be a different story.

Would he include all the accessories?

The Vette' LT1's were rated at 300hp. But the F-bodies and other cars that had LT1's were detuned from the 300hp Vette' LT1's.

he has a half dozen computers for them, he said he would set me up with it so i'd be able to put it in my car.thought they had a little more h.p. than that though.mike

Its funny, back in the early 90's 300hp wasnt bad. They still run great and with the best of em'.

One of the reasons the F-bodies LT-1's have less ponies is because it is a two bolt main instead of a four bolt main like the Corvette's. So the LT-1's he has may only be a two bolt system. You have to remember, that the 300hp is with all the stock compents in place. Put on headers, high flow cat, and you can pump those ponies into the motor. The LT-1's are great though for that low end torque.
