Last year there was some questions about metal shavings found in the LT1 engine causing damage to the bearing assembly.

Has this issue been rectified?

Did GM find conclusive evidence about the oil filter, or is it still speculation?

If the oil filter was the cause, is there a "lot number" that GM recommends not using?

I still have some reservations about getting stranded since I "spank" my vette quite frequently.

Hib, and C4C5, feel free to inform or correct me - I know you have the ability to get inside information from GM.

Thanks,
Chris

There have been a lot of hits to this question without responses which leads me to believe that the actual amount of blown LT1 engines are so minute and non-existent that cause for concern is not worth the effort.
...which is a good thing - now my green gem will get its spanking tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day...and the...............

HI there,

I have done a few, both LT1 and LT4, I have one common denominator. INCORRECT BREAK IN PROCEDURES!

I have not seen any with metal filings in oil filter assemblies or the like, although I have heard that a few have occurred in early 2014.

My 2 LT4 and 3 LT1 were modified with tuning and/or gone from the showroom to the racetrack before break in procedures were finished.

Allthebest, Paul

My information on this is even more sketchy than that of "c4c5Specialist."

I've read anecdotal accounts about the discovering of metal debris in the oil filters on forums but that's about all I know.

Sorry.

Thanks guys, I really respect your knowledge, opinions, and technical advise.

I know of one high performance driving school that had early issues with LT1s, and I know they don't break in their cars correctly, even though it hasn't been a huge issue before the C7. If the reason is that simple, seems too good to be true, but let's go with it. I know my LT1 runs like a champ.
