Lt1 Heads On A L98!

I dont see how in the world you could save money by getting LT1 heads, because you'd have to either convert them yourself (horror story) or pay to have them converted, and that would end up costing as much as a port job or brand new heads for the 87 that are made to fit.

The LT1 heads do not flow that well stock. Better than what you have now but not worth spending the money to convert to. It will NOT be easy and cheap to convert them. It requires welding to the decks of the heads on the coolant passages and then milling them flat and all after the fact. There are reasons people dont do it. It's NOT financially worth it. You will still have to modify the LT1 intake to fit because of the distributor and still work with the separate radiator housing so your not getting around those by using the Lt1 heads.

I say use the LT1 manifold (if it works with your head choice), but screw using the heads. Pick up a set of TFS or Dart Iron Eagles for under $1000 ready to bolt on brand new. You WILL notice a diff with those heads. Make sure John (lt1intake.com guy) knows what heads you plan to use with the intake so he can make sure it's compatible (ports and all).
But dont limit yourself on the Lt1 manifold. The Holley Stealth Ram is another option, cheaper than the miniram and more than the Lt1 manifold. There is now a plenum offered to clear the C4 hood. http://www.stealthram.com read about it here. There is a link about the new plenum under the FAQ section.

Just my opinion.

I did not specify or ask about which rr would work without machining.ill have to call them back tomarrow.

jeff, why would the springs make a diff?i will ask them about this too tomarrow.
Spring Diameter. Some require the seats machined to fit bigger springs. the TPiS ones are stock DIA.

L98 - LT1 Heads

I would think it would be much easier to port your exsisting heads, or by some aftermarket heads with a similar air flow or better then the LT1's. Seems your going through a lot of extra work when alternatives are available. Just an opinion.

Depends on the Springs.. If he uses the Springs from TPiS for the ZZ9 or ZZ409, no machining is needed. If they are another type, it is possible that machining would be required. What springs were you thinking of Mic
Jeff i ws thinking this spring well in this range. there is one from comp but i don't have the book in front of me so i just looked online at jegs to get a comproble dual spring. what do you think? on 1.6 RR's i'm at .555" lift on the ZZ409 cam ya sold me

[font=helvetica,]Springs:
1.440'' diameter double spring w/damper. Valve lift up to .600''. 130# @ 1.800'' closed, 325# @ 1.250'' open, coil bind @ 1.150''.

Those would work, but the heads will need to be machined for the springs since they are larger DIA then the stock springs.

Jeff,

which do you suggest? i gotta find my comp catalog cause that is the one i am looking at not the one i posted.

thanks!

I would just get the ones from TPiS for the ZZ409 and ZZ9 They are matched to the cam and Either Chris or Terry said they will work fine with the 1.6 rockers
