LTPWS Sensors

I have a couple of questions concerning the LTPWS option.

1. I've purchased a set of Chrome A-Mold wheels to go on my 96 Coupe and I need to know if the LTPWS Senors will fit on the aftermarket wheels?

2. I'm going to be running 275/40-17 on all corners so I'll be able to rotate the tires, will I need to switch the sensors from front to back when I rotate the tires?

Thanks you in advance,

Don

on your 96 does it report which tire is low? On my 90 just that A tire is low. If its the same on the newer car you have to get out to check which one is down anyway. So to answer your question, no you do not have to move them when tires are rotated.

You will have to note the location of each sensor. I'm sure you have already thought of this, but just a reminder. In the event you have a problem & a code is set you don't want to have to guess which one it is. The factory had a decal for each side. I think they are available thru the after market companies.

The first generation LTPWS in the C4 does not report which tire is low, just that a tire is low. So, the sensors can be anywhere on the car - just so long as there are 4 of them. If you get a low tire light, it doesn't take much time to figure out which tire is low and get it fixed.

As mentioned above, if you get a 'service' message and the codes report a bad sensor, you will need to know which wheel that sensor is in - otherwise, you and your dealer/tire guy will be breaking down every wheel until they fine the bad one.

As for fitment, the big hose clamp that is used to hold the sensor in the wheel has a lot of adjustment room to handle wheels with different size inside diameters.

Remember that the sensor should be opposite the valve stem with the sensor's counter-weight next to the valve stem. There is a semi-circular cut out in the counter weight designed to fit around the inside of the stem.
This also means that the tire breakdown tool should be placed 90 degrees to the valve stem and never opposite it when removing tires - otherwise, you'll break either the sensor or the hose clamp.

Bill/Rabbit/Tuna,

Thank you all for the avice, this forum is the best!!!!!

LTPSW continuing problems

My Chev dealer broke a sensor while mounting a set of new front tires. They replaced both front sensors but apparently by coincidence, the RR sensor broke loose and destroyed itself. Replaced both rear sensors. LTPWS light still comes on after a few miles driving. Dealer doesn't seem to have a clue. Can anyone tell me how to get these things working again? Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Greg

They shud be able to interrogate the LPTWS. The procedure is in the manual.

There are 2 possibilities I can think of, 1. They duplicated a sensor, same color, bad sensor or 2. The LPTWS module went bad?

There shud be code(s) stored in the system. Good luck with the problem.

I found a set of factory manuals on eBay that should be delivered by next week. Tried the "disconnect the battery" trick with no change. Will try the "ground DLC terminal 6 to 5, 3 times in 10 seconds" trick and see if that does anything. If not, I can only assume that one of these 4 NEW sensors is not working. Is there any "initialization" routine for these new sensors or should they just start working if all is well?

Greg

There is no programming for this system. The sensors report to the module as you start driving, providing they are operational, & that's all there is.

Follow the procedure for interrogating the sensors & module. Then you shud be able to establish what portion i havings the problem. The manual will explain the procedure.

Rabbit, Grounding the DLC to clear the LTPWS error code WORKED!!!
