Lug nut lubricant

Having recently begun to torque my lug nuts with a torque wrench, I am wondering about lubricant on lug nuts occasionally to prevent dry torquing the nuts too tightly. I am under the impression that you should not use anti--seize lubricants, but would like to know more specifically what my options are. I have read that some people use motor oil and some use white grease. Are these acceptable or should they be avoided?

If you're torquing to the proper setting, you shouldn't need anything. You should, however, retorque a few drives after each remount and check periodically. JMHO.

Torq them properly, that's all you need.

Never, never use any type of lubricant or anti-sieze compound on your lug nuts! :nono

I had my tires changed on my old '87 a few years back, and the tire shop put a silver substance on the threads... what could that have been? It wasn't a lubricant (i felt some, didn't feel slick). any ideas?

Anti-seize compound. Shouldn't be used on wheel studs.
