Question: Luggage rack

When I repaint my '73 vert, I'm considering nixing the luggage rack. What's the consensus on the luggage rack on the back? Personally I'm on the fence about it.
If you've never used it, then...;shrug
Or, you could always leave it and remove it later if it really bothers you.

It's probably like A/C to me in my car. I've never had it, so I don't miss it. However, if I did ever have it and used it, I'd probably wonder how I live without it.
So, if ya don't use the luggage rack or don't find much utility in it, then get rid of it. But keep in mind "the dimples" that others have spoken of.

If you are going to remove the luggage rack, patching the holes will take a lot of work, they seem to show up with the best work after painting the car. I personally like my luggage rack, the extra chrome adds to the appearace of the car.

His statement is correct about the the holes showing up. I had a rack on mine and decided to remove it because a previous owner installed it crooked. Even the best fiberglass person can't hide where the holes were. The fiberglass has a tendency to dimple up when the car has been in the sun and the surface warms up. I still like it without the rack though.

I did certain things to make my rear deck not look so big without the rack. I ended up chroming the vent grills and the gas cover. Looks great that way.

Nope, not Me

.
Who would want to screw up the clean lines of this Vette with a luggage rack? Not me! They were a option for a few years in the late 70`s when they ran out of ideas for changes, the rest were aftermarket. There was always enough room behind the seats. I even carried my ski`s inside..:upthumbs

Well I had a 69 and it was more than a daily driver .I drove all over the country (275,000 miles) I loved the rack and I used it .As a matter of fact I replaced it a couple times due to wear.

What it projects is the owner is a "Travelin' Man"

My '77 has a Factory installed Luggage / T-Top Rack... However, I did
shorten the support legs a bit...and have it painted to Match the paint and stripes of the car...it is also rigged up to be removable...for when I desire to not use it...I use it mostly for the T-tops, and with a cutting board place on top of it , it becomes a Tailgate for lunches and drinks...
or as a work top for when service work is preformed. Works out well with the Surf Boards too!

Nope, not here, those look like @#*

:w

AC was standard beginning with the 80 models. Are you saying a PO removed it?
I'm trying to think what PO could be an acronym for. :)
The A/C didn't work when I purchased my car. Over time, I've removed all the components. Still have the pieces parts in boxes, but that's about it. Putting A/C back on the car isn't in my plans for the forseeable future. (If anything, it's a good reason for my girl to get herself a C6 that she's been eyeing for awhile now. :D)

I like the luggage rack.

Luggage Rack

Can't do this without a luggage rack. And the luggage stays in the car and I can still see out the back window.

The C5s and C6s appear to have much larger trunks than the C1s, so if I ever get a C5 or C6 vert, I may reconsider the luggage rack addition.

I just purchased a 2013 GS and the one thing I was a little disappointed in was the size of the trunk - it's small. I only saw the trunk opened with the top down, but there doesn't appear to be a whole lot of space that I'd gain if the top were up. I thought there would be a lot more room in there. I didn't have any storage room in the LT-1 so maybe my expectations of just having a trunk were a bit too high.
