Is there any way to tell (without having an authentic build sheet) if my 1970 454 coupe was originally equipped with the M22 transmission that it currently has. I am not sure if that transmission was offered on 454 cars or if it was reserved for the ZR1 packages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :beer

In MY70, M22 came ony with ZR1, but ZR1 was a small-block, not a big-block option package. 25 ZR1s were built and 25 M22s were installed. In MY70, no 454 came stock with an M22.

If you have one in your car, it was installed on an aftermarket basis.

Also, beware, many used "M22s" which were installed on an aftermarket basis were really not M22s.

Should be last 6 digets of VIN number stamped vertically on the right side of the case just ahead of the extension.
