Is the MAF sensor really needed or is there a way it can be bypassed. I have a bad feeling that mine is shot and the price of a new one is frightening, so I was hoping there was a way to bypass to double check before I spend the long $$$$$$$$$$

is there a way that I can check the MAF, or what about the 2 relays that go the MAF??

Code 33 can be either the MAF or the relays. Code 34 is a real PITA to track down sometimes, but is usually the MAF sensor itself.

Replace the relays, see if codes come back.
Then replace MAF.

I applied 12 volts to my ALCL pin G to activate the fuel pump relay, and the relay that was activating was the relay behind the battery closet to the fender. Isn't that the MAF relay. I thought that is why my MAF was going bad. Why would that relay activate when applying 12 volts to pin G?? My initial problem is that my fuel pump would not activate when turning the key on, and of coarse the car would not start. The fuel pump and fuel relay (located underneath the windsheil) are new. So the troubleshooting guide told me to apply 12 volts to pin G to activate the fuel pump relay. Once I did that, the relay that was clicking was the one behind the battery??? HELP

You can drive it without the MAF, but it drives like a Mustang.:D You can disconnect the MAF connection and it will go into limp mode. I would not put allot miles on it, but it will allow you to get it to a shop or to a parts store if it is your only car.

Are you getting a Service Engine Soon light? My 88 gives this and code 34 but don't buy a new MAF unless you are sure it is gone. Service bullitens tend to point to the relays, check them out. Check GM service bullitens on web for your car. RJS

sounds like I am getting the fuel pump relay and the MAF relay's confused. Please confirm which is which.............PLEASE. If I apply 12 volts to pin G inside the car, shouldn't the fuel pump energize?? It doesn't. The relay that I herd click, was the one behind the battery closest to the fender?? I am SOOO confused.

same relay..........

Aren't the 2 relay used for the MAF the same as the one for the fule pump??

Blk...

The fuel pump relay is on the firewall as well.. located NEAR the MAF relays.

For now..just pull the MAF plug off the bottom.. and secure it out of the way.

ONE of the relays is the same generic relay.. the other is NOT!

Let me go find a post...
