I’ve heard that removing the screen from the Mass Air Flow Sensor increases air flow to the engine, creating more horsepower. Has anyone does this with any noticeable results?

...

in my opinion, i would not do it... i have not done this to my car, nor will i ever...

i cannot imagine there being any sort of measurable gain in power by simply removing the screen found inside the mass air flow sensor...

ok ok, i admit there will be a tiny, miniscule drop in the air's velocity on the aft side of the screen - that is simply because air is a fluid.. it is viscous.. it will, in a sense, "stick" to the screen...

but i don't think there is any way this tiny amount of flow impedance will "choke" your mighty LS1 away from a few valuable horsies...

i think you are better off leaving it there...

I had put in an aftermarket maf end screenless in my 1999 and then replaced it later on because the stock screened unit is better able to precisely measure air.

I would stay with the screened maf end you have if your looking for opinions.

Its been a general consensus with many LS1edit tuners as well from what I've read.

Leave the maf with the screen..

I thought as much.... Several of the magazines have done features on this method of getting increased horsepower, but I was always leery. Thanks for the feedback.
