Question: Maf

Guys I have a ? I see adds for a MAF 52m 58m. My LT4 flows 644m the smallest one flow 780 the next is 1,000. That seems like to much air. I have an intake system with the K&M and free flow exhaust. Will the 780 help? How much will I gain OR is that to much air.Any help??:thanks:

If all you've done to the car is a AIS with a K&N Filter and an aftermarket exhaust, you don't need a bigger throttle body.

Now, once you have headers, a bigger camshaft and ported heads, then you need to consider a bigger TB.

Hib I don't want a bigger TB I just want to get a larger Mass Air Flow Senser. Just get more air I have the exhaust . I have the grabber intake foil under the front bumper Air cleaner has been cut out with smooth tubes and that useless air foil.

You don't need a bigger MAF, either, and for the same reasons. Now, once you modify your engine such that air flow is significantly greater, then you might.

But if you insist on getting one, if it actually does flow more air, you'll have to get a "custom tune" with revised frequency vs air flow tables to make it work properly.

Anyone who sells you a bigger MAF which doesn't require retuning has a MAF that either doesn't really flow more air or is under-reporting air flow.

What I would do, if you're looking for more performance from an LT4 which already has an aftermarket AIS and an aftermarket exhaust is a custom tuned calibration for the ECM. Problem is custom tunes done right are pretty darn costly.

After that real gains from an LT4 come only from either going to headers or going to the LT4 hot cam and another custom tune.

After you have the Hot Cam and headers then you might want the bigger MAF but, I'd only do that if chassis dyno testing shows the engine is getting airflow restricted.

Ok Hib thanks .A buddy of mine up in CT has a speed shop with a dyne he has been after me to put it on . I really don't want to blow something just to test it. If I just get the the race tune he wants to do I will be happy. Right now i am in FLA. wont be back in CT till April and MY BABY is sleeping,will do the tune in the spring.
