Kev, congrats on your first Corvette and welcome to the Corvette Action Center! You've come to a great place to learn and ask questions about your new C4.

To help start you off, here's a link to the 1985 model page in the CAC Tech Center Model Center: Click me

I'm sorry I can't answer your question but I'm sure someone will come along shortly that can.

Enjoy!

Welcome to CAC I wouldn't worry about "Matching Numbers" on a C4 as it generally pertains to the older cars.
I'll give you my take on matching numbers and I'm probably wrong ;LOL

numbers matching does not mean original just that the cast dates and the numbers stamped on the engine pad predate the assembly date (which those in the know can determine from the vin) cast dates are found on all the major parts.

so by obtaining the correct dated parts a more desirable (expensive) Big block car can be made from a small block car.

which is why I'm fond of saying "out of the original 20 L88's only about 100 still exist";LOL

Welcome aboard. Enjoy !!!! :beer

Kev,

I own an 85' vette which was judged Top Flight 5 years ago.
The actual numbers which are stamped on the pad are impossible
to see without disassembling all kinds of stuff on the front of the
engine. On my judging sheets they actually only looked for the
block part number which is viewable with the hood open.
They kind of just wrote 207 , which is the last 3 numbers of
14010207 which is a 1984 or 1985 correct part number.
The block changed in 1986...If you can see that number, chances
are you have the original engine.....

Good Luck,
Mark B.

Welcome to the CAC Kev. :w My first Corvette was a new red 85 with grey interior and 4 + 3 shift. Always liked the blinking light that said "security".
