My wife purchased a 1999 C5 for my Birthday (July 4th). Picked it up yesterday. Today, we go to lunch. I park under a pine tree and I now have tree sap on my hood near the headlights.

Can my new Corvette comrads tell me the best way to remove pine tree sap from the hood of my car? Any suggestions that won't endanger my finish?

I know..... I know... you're all saying "rookie!". I call it lessons learned. Funny how the tree never "attacked" my Blazer before.

I look forward to your input as I will be hot on the case tomorrow.

Regards,

Midnight

I would use Detailing Dudes advice and get the sap off with margarine ASAP!!! It will pit your finish. Believe me, I've seen it first hand.

Claybar should work. This would be my first choice.

If you want to go with a chemical, Bug & Tar remover will also work.

Once you get it protected with a wax or a polish, this stuff should roll right off (in theory) when you wash it.

Get it off ASAP…do you know what they make turpentine with?…You guessed it…Pine trees. Congratulations on the great wife and the new car. (In that order) They are both keepers. Happy Birthday

By the time you read this, I hope that you have successfully removed the sap from the finish. I too have seen the end result of sap sitting on an otherwise nice paint job....and it isn't prettty. :( It should always be removed ASAP.

Bug and tar remover would be my product of choice in this situation. Hope you have luck, and congrats on the new car. :)

Exit one Sap!

Thanks for all the advice on Tree Sap removal.

I tried a Turtle Wax Tar & Bug remover. It speifically says it removes tree sap.

I sprayed it on, waited a minute or so and then tried rubbing it with my finger. They came right up. I wiped up the excess and washed and used a McGuires sealer to finish it up.

It looks good as new. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
