1st—Gaskets: How are you all getting ALL the gasket material off the
engine block? It's such a small area and it's difficult seeing, especially
with my vision. I have been using a putty knife and a razor blade.
Does the "new" gasket mount on the engine 1st or does it mount to the
new water pump first?

2nd—The "Sleeve" connecting the pump spindle to the one coming from
the block. Does it matter which end of the sleeve goes to the engine.
Both ends do fit either spindle, but one end of the sleeve has a groove
around it.

3rd—Is torquing the 6 bolts absolutely necessary? Is there a tightening
sequence? Thanks one more time!

1st - Yup - putty knife & razor knife is what I used to get all the old material off. I used gasket seal (it was purple, came in a small can with a brush attached to the cap) to stick the gaskets to the pump first (put bolts in holes when sticking gaskets to pump, that way they line up) then put a coat on the engine side of the gasket before mounting.

2nd - It's been a couple of years since I did mine; I don't remember a groove in the sleeve, in fact, I think mine was attached to the pump.

3rd - I've found that trying to use the "2 grunt rule" for torqing bolts on a Vette usually makes them too tight so, I invested in both a large & small torque wrench (fairly cheap and worth it, especially when torquing into aluminum!) I used a drop of blue lock tight on each of the bolts (red is just too strong); worked from outside - in - upper then lower; first snug on each, then went back in same sequence to torque down.

Probably wouldn't have made a difference on the water pump but, it's still a good practice. Remember, you're your own pit crew; don't do anything that would get you fired!:L

Just finished that job on mine along with plugs ,wires, and the opti (150K miles)
I also used a wire cup brush to finish the block area.
My personal preference for gasket sealer is Permetex Aviation or Super 300. Silicone has its place but most use it to excess.
To avoid thread damage I do most work with 1/4 in drive tools.

As you can see it was pretty well shot but working fine and quiet. Here's a thread on it.

Yes it does matter. In my fsm for my 93 section 6b-25 the coupling is shown with with a white band or grove. It states that the coupling goes back on with the witness ring to wards the engine. Again GM would not have spent the money identifying the part with a witness mark without it being important.

So Bay Vetter??

Thankyou for your recent reply concerning my water pump issues.
Question: I've been trying to find the "gasket seal you had mentioned or
any seal with a brush applicator. This seems like the easiest way to control
the amount applied to the gasket surface. Where can I get this "purple"
sealer you're talking about? Or can I just use the regular Permatex sealer,
spreading it on with knife or the like? Thanks Again
