I was able to meet Chris and Mark for the first time today, as well as my first encounter with a Callaway modified C6. Specifically an SC580. :upthumbs

We had a good lunch at Fuddruckers, and Mark took me for a ride in the SC580. Chris drove Mark's car, and my mom followed in the SS. Mark and I both thought it would be an automatic, but this is a different car than we expected.

It was very fast, and very smooth, and the sensation of speed is very low. On the one hand, you feel very safe in the car at high speed--the car is extremely well insulated from road noise, the Callaway suspension is perfectly balanced for driving on the road--I was never uncomfortable, and those optional seats are extremely comfortable once you get in them. On the other hand, I've always enjoyed having an adrenaline rush from a little fear of death when zooming around. :reddevil That's just my personal preference. I like roaring downshifts, a bit of road noise, and a huge roar up front. I guess I'm a SuperNatural sort of guy, especially with a live axle at back. :cool I'm also an automatic type of guy (which I later demonstrated) unless I have time to figure out when the clutch engages...

It's a lot quieter than I was expecting. It's very obvious that one of these could be a daily driver quite easily. Chris had a lot of stuff in the trunk, so I couldn't hear much of the exhaust behind us, but the supercharger whine wasn't disruptingly loud either. It definitely breathes a lot better than a stock C6, however sounds about as loud at idle. When giving it some gas, it comes to life, and the supercharger whine sounds pretty cool.

When Chris and Mark switched back, I asked Chris if I could drive it a bit, and it went something like this:
::Chris driving::
Chris: Sure, let's switch. ::puts it in neutral, grabs the handbrake, and gets out::
Me: :eek (tongue tied and thinking "I didn't mean now, I meant when we got to the Lamborghini dealership, but okay, we'll see how I do" ::crosses fingers:: ).

We both run around the car and switch, I figure out where the clutch is, and give it a shot. Bumpy start--let out the clutch too fast--rough upshift to second. Come to the red light, light turns green, and I stall it. He asks if I'd like to switch back and I agree that's a good idea as we were in traffic. For shame Brandon... for shame.

Having never driven a manual C6, I wasn't familiar with the clutch at all, so I wasn't able to just jump in and drive off. I don't drive manual cars very often (despite the SS being a 6-speed), so... (insert excuse here). ;help

It's too bad Chris had to get on the road, because I didn't get another shot at it. No time to learn it. Oh well. Overall, it was a fun time and experience 'til I emasculated myself behind the wheel. :ugh So embarrassed...

(High res available of all pics if anyone wants a specific one or two--PM me)

First, a few choice some-what high res pictures. I'm not all that fond of the camera I brought along. It gets speckles in the sky sometimes and in ALL videos. On hot sunny days, it also reads colors improperly... I think I got it too hot at a car show once, and it's been like that ever since...

Looking extremely good together.

In Texas, we have white skies. :L

Fit like a glove. Chris obviously likes sitting close to the dash.

The seat was hard to get out of, but very comfortable. I expected a racing style seat to be hard as a rock (ala Lamborghini Diablo's wooden feeling seat). This was pleasantly more comfortable than stock.

The Callaway seat matched the factory interior very well.

Nice looking brakes; stock wheels.

I like the CALLAWAY decal Chris added. These should be standard in my opinion.

All three.

Hey wait a minute... is that Sledgehammer? :D

n18800375_33361870_7575.jpg

Fortunately today was a lot less hot and humid than days previous. It was 106 yesterday, and 102 and 40% humidity a day or two ago. If it was like that today, we wouldn't have made it in the parking lot that long.

I like the hood a lot. It adds interest to the Corvette.

A parting gift from Chris to me, THANKS!!! :upthumbs:upthumbs:upthumbs

Yeah, I need to work on my manual driving skills. :ugh Apparently the only cars I can drive without stalling are a '92 Corvette and my best friends' Mini Cooper S GP.

Hopefully Chris got to see some "ok" Dallas sites. I think he pretty much got a tour of Dallas's armpit. The food was good, but we were in a pretty dumpy area of Dallas (Irving).

Great lunch guys sorry for the rush but only had a few minutes...good thing Chris's car has no issues in triple digits!

PS Chris promised to put the proper license plates on his car when it returns home to Texas.

nice report Brandon,

We understand you stalled the car, everybody had at least 1 similar moment in their lifes.
I remember my first time driving a 911 , (as being a very well experience clutch driver as we europeans drive 85% stick.) i could not get this thing 1 meter from its place. darn did I feel embarrassed.
now my friend has a 993 and everytime he lets me drive it he reminds me of that particular moment.

thanks for all the nice pictures , you had the afternoon I hope to have someday.

was there any vids made ?

Brandon, it was nice to meet you and your Mom. :cool Always a pleasure to visit with Mark :w

Lunch was either REALLY awesome, or I was starving. Anyways, you should get out more, that was a nice looking area, right??? ;shrug At least with the cars, it was :beer

:L Lunch was pretty good, but that area isn't my favorite. I'm sure you drove through several similar areas on your way out of Texas though. :L

It was actually kind of funny when my mom and I were looking for you and the car to figure out where to park. She was like "is that it?"
Me: "No... that's a 1980's Taurus"
Her: "How about down there?"
Me: "No, the only red car down there is a Chevy Beretta"

And then there you were, sticking out like a sore thumb lol.

I'd say "at least the Lamborghini dealership was nice" but the area it's in isn't. It's such a strange place for it.

Wahoo.....I am glad you got to drink the KOOLAIDE....bro....

Chris and Mark are superguys...

Is the seat not easily adjusted? Cool pictures, looks like fun!
It might have been, I didn't try. I think I drove about 1 block. ;LOL

Always good to be able to laugh at yourself.

Nothing like good old Texas warm weather, good friends and fine cars to bring out the best in all. Brandon, I will visit my daughter in Frisco and bring my automatic!!! Thanks for the pictures and the story. I still think we need to start a game of "Where's Chris".

...ok, guess which state I will be going to next????

Or even better, what major city will I stop at for the night??? :beer

Sounds like a great trip. Chris, if you ever get to Florida, look me up. I've got a spare room, space in the garage, and a few Callaways as company for the SC580 (at least the non-bent ones)

Anthony

Are you heading south or north? I am actually in Stuart right now (about 20 mins north of West Palm Beach)
