mfg date questions

Hi everyone,
I just joined today and I'm going out tonight to look at a 2001 z06. The car looks really nice and has 29k miles on it. I think I can get him down to 27k for the car if I try hard enough.

Anyhow, I've read about the oil consumption issue and they say it was fixed on 2001's made after May. Is this true? If so, where do I find the date the car was made? I didn't see anything on the VIN that says it.

Also, He's the second owner and doesn't have any of the service records for the car. Is there a way through the VIN that I can check on the service records for the car?

Any other thing I need to check for on this car?

Hey there!!!! Welcome to the CAC!!!!!!

I bet you are excited to get into a Z06. Let me ask you, is the car you looking for in Speedway White??????? That is the only one I personally would get. They are rare and cool looking. It is the only year the Z06 came out in white.

As for your other questions. A service bulletin came out with this oil thing and it should have been resolved.

You can run a carfax on it to see if there are any reports on a wreck. You may be able to find someone here who has access to carfax and they will likely be glad to run it for you.

Get some photos of the car and post them up here. We can judge on appearance from here if you like!!!!!!!! Get some engine pics and everything.

Welcome to the CAC.
If you open the driver side door, there should be a couple of stickers on the side. Here is a close-up. On mine, the bottom one has the build month.

This will be a start; or, you could contact the NCM to find an exact date. They have build sheets replicas available here (for a fee) or perhaps someone there might be nice enough to tell you the build date.

You may want to call out to the General C5 section for the Carfax as well.

You may get more hits there. Just a thought.
