[The following posts were in a different thread called "Proper Detailing Materials". Since the thread got a little off-topic and moved towards MicroFiber detailing cloths, I thought I'd start a new thread and move the posts into this one. - Rob Loszewski, Site Administrator, Corvette Action Center, 12-27-02]

MicroFibers are leagues ahead of Cotton Towels. When selected for the right purpose. I only use 100% Cotton Towels for washing, but for direct contact with the paint I generally use Micro's.

Where can you find these?

DetailingDude,
I have been hesitant to use these micro fiber cloths. I have heard that they can leave fine scratches in the clear coat. Of couse it was from someone who was selling there own type of clean cloth, so it may have been bull. Are they really that good?

MicroFibers won't scratch your paint. What can happen is if your Micro's aren't properly cared for and they trap dirt in them then that trapped dirt can scratch them.

Never lay them down on the ground and then re-use them. I wash them by hand and store in a plastic bag.

www.AutoDetail.com, www.GriotsGarage.com, www.PinnacleWax.com

Some microfibers use triangular instead of round, and are 300 times smaller than cotton fibers. These microfibers act like thousands of tiny squeegees that easily remove residues and dirt from a surface. The result is incredible cleaning that uses far less pressure and effort than conventional products. Since it traps particles and holds them until washing MicroFibers are also great for dusting, general wiping, and all detail cleaning.

Sal will wake up to them one day.

I started a new MicroFiber thread and moved the posts from the Proper Detailing Materials thread into this one. :D

Got mine from AUTOFANATICS.COM. GREAT for polishing!

Microfiber towels are absolutely fantastic, but you must choose them with caution - not all microfiber towels are created equal, and not all of them are worthy of use on your paint finish.

I have been using Microfiber towels for various detailing applications for the past 2 years, and in that time have been exposed to various vendors and their towels; here are my experiences thus far:

I have only found 3 sources of Microfiber that I consider worthy of use on the paint: www.properautocare.com, www.NEATitems.com, and www.pakshak.com. These are all very nice towels and are of greater quality.

Those that I have encountered that are not worthy of use on the finish (but serve a purpose on the glass, leather, dash, door panels, rims, etc.) are from such vendors as Turtle Wax, NicSand, Gliptone, Viking, etc.

Quality towels are extremely plush and soft. I'm sure that there are other sources for quality and mid-grade towels out there, but this has been my experience. Choose wisely. :)

You can also buy microfiber towels at Walmart. They sell them in their automotive section in packs of 5 for $4.85

I use microfiber for final buffing.FANTASTIC!!! and far superior to any cotton towel
