Midyear jack repair

The threads in the large nut on my '67 jack have stripped.

Is there a source for these nuts? If not, does anyone have one available, perhaps on a jack that is in real bad shape otherwise.

The shaft that runs through the nut has a very unusual thread, otherwise I'd find a nut easily.

actually, I have a jack in my car also but i'm not sure if it's an original one or a repro one and I know most of the repro that are sold have warnings that they shouldn't be used to jack up a car...... how DUMB is that. They make repro jacks for looks only that you can't actually use! Since I don't know which mine is I never plan on using it.
i'll call for a flatbed first before i risk the car on an unknown jack - especially after my "jacking incident" the other day.

Did you try eBay? Maybe some of the larger well-known specialty Vette restoration shops have an old original one they pulled out of a car because of being in bad condition that they were just replacing with a repro unit and still one lying around they could remove the nut and sell you.

Well, Barry, my friend, think about this scenario. If your midyear is down on a flat, would you want a tow truck driver trying to raise the car? I wouldn't.

Where would he lift it from? Certainly not the bumpers!!!!!

In my case, due to the modified suspension, he couldn't raise the front or the rear by jacking under the front crossmember or under the third member.

And, the car may sit too low to get under a flat tire with his equipment.

I want a scissor-jack along so that at least I can get it up high enough to be able to remove a wheel.

A local machine shop can do a fix for minimal cost.

That's an "Acme" thread - a machine shop should be able to make you a new nut.

I'd never heard of an "Acme" thread. I just knew it was something different.
