CALGARY, CANADA - Kenneth Jelley calls his classic Corvette his pride and joy. He even gave it a nickname — Betsey.

But about week ago, Jelley found his car had vanished. He reported it stolen and police are asking for the public's help to locate the rare vehicle.

The red 1962 Chevrolet Corvette was taken from the 9600 block of Bonaventure Drive S.E. sometime between 7 p.m. on July 12 and 5 p.m. the next day, police said.

The car was parked in an outdoor lot, covered in a tarp and padlocked. Investigators are examining the padlock, which they believe thieves cut off and left behind.

Jelley, 73, has owned the rare convertible for over 40 years. The car had just 54,000 miles on it.

Kenneth Jelley was just starting to come to grips with the fact that he may never see his 41-year companion again.

The Calgary man was heartbroken July 13 when Betsy, his beloved 1962 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, was stolen from outside his apartment in southeast Calgary.

But on Wednesday, Jelley was thrilled to receive a call from police that they’d recovered the classic car from an acreage in the De Winton area.

The car is being taken to the CPS forensics bay for further testing, and Jelley hopes to be reunited soon. It’s the only classic car he has ever owned and its been with him for decades, he said.

“It won’t be in my hands today or tomorrow,” he said. “The point is, it’s secure.”

I have owned my '58 for over forty six years now. It would be hard enough to sell it and see the empty garage space, but to have it stolen from me would be heartbreaking. I'm so glad Mr. Jelley got his car back and in good condition.
