I would like to remove the body side molding on my C5...I think they look better without it. I've heard the molding can be removed using dental floss or fishing line to safely cut through the adhesive. Did the factory apply the molding after it was painted? In other words, is there body color and clearcoat underneath? Has anyone successfully done this with no signs that the molding was ever there? Thanks. Dave

I was thinking of having the molding put on mine because it didn't have it. I went to a body shop and they said that they had removed molding before and there is paint and clearcoat under the molding. Just to make sure ask a body shop who has done this or get in touch with GM to find out. What color is your car? What are you going to do with the molding after it is removed? I might be interested in buying it from you.

GM puts The molding on after the car has been painted! It can be removed with A hot air heat gun! But you need to be careful an not burn the paint. You might want to take to a GM repair center. Good luck Eli.

Removing the molding is very simple. Use fishing line first, then use your fingers to take off remaining adhesive. Then apply 3M adhesive remover available at Pep-Boys. You'll never know they were there, what an improvement. I also took off the C5 emblems on the nose and rear deck. Looks great, nothing but compliments.
