Actually, I think the reason why they started out with using the CF hood was to determine if they could manufacture carbon fiber products at a reasonable cost and high quality without sucking the life out of Corvette owners' wallets.Edmond said:I think the CF hood on the Z16's were pretty much a test by GM to see how people would react to using CF on a Corvette. It was also a test to see how well the vehicle would react to that material.
It'll be interesting to see how extensive they will use CF to save weight. It will cost more but I'm sure that if they build to a certain number, they will get price breaks on material.
But didn't they have a problem with painting the CF?
Oh, I don't know about that. I think cf is very sharp. I have the complete PFYC "Ultimate Dash" package in my car and it makes the interior look like a different car. I don't have a shot of mine, but this is what it looks like:vettepilot said:...I for one seriously hope we don't see a bunch of useless carbon fiber in places where it doesn't enhance performance, (like center dash panal trim etc.) if it is going into the car, at least use it for a component large enough to make a significant weight savings, hood, outside door panals, roof etc. Carbon fiber trim panels are for kids, the Z06 should be a serious performance car....

The early rumors I remember hearing about the Blue Devil was it was going to forced induction, either super charged or twin turbo, and the H.P. was at least 625.Edmond said:If the Z06 is going to have 500hp, what are they going to do with the Blue Devil?
