Motor bogs down @ 4K RPM

The hoses I was referring to are not at the tank but from the end of the fuel line to the fuel pump. They should be molded S shape hoses and not plain fuel hose.

Whiteknight,
I sure think fuel problem. Did you replace an in line filter? If so there may still be a little bronze filter in the carb right where the fuel line enters which often block up. Also consider the mesh bag on the end of the pickup tube in the fuel tank. I have seen them close up as well. The hoses that were already mentioned can sometimes start to come apart and pinch shut on the inside without looking abnormal on the outside. Just two more cents, good luck.

Jack is correct, no EGR valve on the 71. From what I read GM did not start using them until 72 and it may have been later when they found thier way on to a corvette.

Gary - I took a look at the hose going to the fuel pump. The larger one has a curl look too it, could be an S. Hard to get a photo of it..

Magoo - I replaced the paper filter in the carb, with a new paper one. I also have a bronze filter that is susposed to fit in the same spot in place of the paper one, but have not tried it. I can see that the vent hoses on the drivers side of the fuel tank look dry. It would probably be a good idea to replace all the fuel hoses. I think I have to drop the tank to do that, so I'll look at the sender strainer then too.

I'll take the car out later today and see if the bog is still gone. I still want to test another carb if it is back.

Jack... the second photo is for you.

Problem fixed

Well I took the car out today for a long drive and ran it hard several times upto the redline. No bog. Must have been some junk in the carb.
