Well my mufflers finally are rotted enough to get some new ones, but im having a little trouble. On the flowmaster site they have direct oem replacements for $190 each ((http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/flowmaster/search.html)), so naturally i think its too much and turned to ebay. Now, will any 50 series with a 2.5" center inlet and dual out work on my 86? Should i go with 40 series for whatever reason? Anyone have any experiences with the "delta flow"? Hopefully i can get them ordered tonight.

Thanks a bunch,

You could get a competent muffler shop to install a pair of generic Flowmasters but you might check to see if the muffler and labor charge would be more than buying Corvette-specific versions.

As far as the series type, the 40 series will be pretty loud so you might want to look a the 50 series.

Other alternatives are the so-called "muffler eliminators" as sold thru the catalogs. I have a set on my 87 autocross car and they have a very nice sound to them. http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.990 Also check out these other parts numbersby entering them in the search box: 603-470 or 603-408

Another thing a muffler shop can do is to simply replace the old mufflers with pieces of straight pipe and use tips of your choice. If you have the pre-cats and the main cat in place, eliminating the mufflers will give you a nice sound but won't get the attention of Officer Friendly!! And you may only pay around $50 for the whole deal.

I put the Flowmaster 50's on my '89. They sound good without too much noise. Even my wife can tolerate them. I had Dynomax Ultraflows on before them, and there was too much resonance even with a cross pipe connection.
