Muncie stuck in 3rd - HELP!

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my 68. What it ended up being was that there are some tabs that hold the Muncie in place and prevent it from sliding left to right. I made a mistake in driving down a really ruff street in Houston and both tabs snapped. Upon making a turn, the Muncie shifted positions and put a bind on the Hurst shifter. I had new tabs re-welded on and it actually shifts better than it did before the problem happened. Don't know if thats what has happened to you, but its something to check.

Would the above proceedure work if the shifter is stuck in reverse?? ;shrug
Yes, if it's the linkage or shifter that's the problem. The transmission cannot go into two gears at the same time. So if the shifter or the linkage is not indexing the shift rods precisely, something is going to jam. Pretty simple.
