Dad, the car really looks great and has been a long time coming. I know you have
worked very hard on her and it shows. You deserve it.

61

Your 61 looks great. I've had a lot of straight axles but 61/62 is my favorite. Might be because my big butt fits in easy. Here are some shots of my 62. Had it for 38 years and drive it all the time. Just finished rebuilding the T-10 with NOS parts I've been collecting for years, main shaft, gears , synchros, bearings, etc. It shifts like new now. Next is new liners for the rear springs, strut rod bushings and rebound straps. The paint was done in 1981, Ditzler Tuxedo black lacquer. not nice enough to show but too nice to take down again.

Rich, good to hear from you. Yeah, you do have a great looking 'vette. I feel the same about driving them. I don't go to strip shows, for the same reason I don't believe having car just to sit on trailer. And you're right, that 62 is too nice to touch, enjoy!

Rich, Very nice,I had 62 vette sold in 1974 and saw it at Turkey Rod Run last year for the first time in many moons. Ace :thumb

Rich,

Nice '62.

Hi Guys,
I kind of agree with the thought of '61 & '62 Vettes having a certain magic about them. Case in point: Back in the '70's I did my first restoration-a body off on a '62. It took me 4 years to finish and when I did, I was disappointed with it because I was used to driving C/2 Sting Rays. Having never driven a C/1 before driving my '62, it was a big surprise. I'm here to tell ya, a C/1 ain't a C/2 :ugh. So, I showed it for a while and it even was featured in a 1981? (if I remember right) Vette Vues article. Then I sold it. BUT!
At the end of last summer, I got this feeling that it would be cool to have another '62 again :cool. So, I found and bought a "Barn Find" '62 Corvette out of New Jersey. A complete car that sat for a while and didn't run. It has the original 327/250 engine and two tops with a lot of original parts you normally have to hunt long for.
I got it running at the end of November and what a thrill it was to let that clutch out and having it roll out of the garage on it's own after about twenty years of sleep.
Isn't it funny how these old Corvettes just get into your system and never go away...........I just love it!

Barn 62

That old maroon 62 is a great find and I'm sure that when it's finished will really break some hearts. There's no question that a C-1 is never going to ride or drive like a newer Vette but that's the point, they're in a class by themselves and when the suspension is re done with new king pins, bushings etc. it's surprising how well they can ride and handle. You have to be a little hard core to really love the C-1 cars but I do. Rich

:) ....I started my 61 vette today for the first time since 1988...

Holy crap! My daughter was not even born until a year later, and now she's in college!!!! :W:W Now I really feel old...;squint::L

Congratulations! I know what it is to see one's car in the garage waiting for some love, but the kids' needs came first.

great looking car:thumb
