My new 14 inch rotors arrive today. I was shocked when I saw the size of them. They also weigh a ton. These are the basic rough casting so alot of machining/lightening will be done to them
They are an honest 14 inches by about 1.400 thick. I will take nothing off the diameter and cut the thickness down to 1.270 or so.
I made an standard 8 inch aluminum hat that the disc will eventually get bolted to but the disc dwarfs the hat.
I hate to do it but I will scrap the 8 inch hat and start over with 10 inch diameter chunks of aluminum and make two new larger hats.

I will also drill a hole pattern in the rotors to remove weight and add looks. Regardless of what alot think my stand rotors do not have a single crack after 10 plus years of driving.
Anyway tomorrow I start machining and watch the pounds peel away with each cut.
I will be posting on this for the next few weeks as the project progresses.
This is the stock rotor beside the new 14 inch.

Wow! Those are huge, Norval.

I can't wait to see the finished product all assembled with the larger hat and all the lightening work done.

What kind of calipers are you going to use?
Where did you manage to get a rotor that size with no hat builts into it?

Take care,
Brian

I actually rough machined all dimensions this morning and lost 8 pounds per rotor in the process.
I will make custom 10 inch hats for them next week.
I believe in the stock calipers. Mine are stainless sleeved and do not leak and are easy to bleed without a proportioning valve.
They have 4 large pistons and while the casting is heavy they are rigid. I also run a large hydroboost for increased braking pressure.
I also believe in organic pads to protect the rotors and in a single hard panic stop they will match metallic pads. They will fade later on but I don't race so the panic stop is all I need.
The rotors are coleman and most race cars use this flat rotor with no hat. Hats cost about the same as the rotor.
I will be posts lots on this buildup over the next month.
Including homemade caliper mounts.
