My new 14 inch rotors arrive today. I was shocked when I saw the size of them. They also weigh a ton. These are the basic rough casting so alot of machining/lightening will be done to them
They are an honest 14 inches by about 1.400 thick. I will take nothing off the diameter and cut the thickness down to 1.270 or so.
I made an standard 8 inch aluminum hat that the disc will eventually get bolted to but the disc dwarfs the hat.
I hate to do it but I will scrap the 8 inch hat and start over with 10 inch diameter chunks of aluminum and make two new larger hats.
I will also drill a hole pattern in the rotors to remove weight and add looks. Regardless of what alot think my stand rotors do not have a single crack after 10 plus years of driving.
Anyway tomorrow I start machining and watch the pounds peel away with each cut.
I will be posting on this for the next few weeks as the project progresses.
This is the stock rotor beside the new 14 inch.
This is the normal 8 inch aluminum hat with the rotor
This is a side shot of the rotor and hat
