The only problem is that I cannot drive anyone of them!!!!!!!
Several people have asked to share my collection of Callaway pictures, literature and models. I am happy to share.
I began collecting literature and models 15 years ago. I have some rare models such as the Scale Productions Agusta LM, in 10 years I have only seen one. I have 6 1:43rd scale cars some in metal and some in resin and a pewter C12 1:43rd that was given out at the Geneva Auto Show in 1998 from Ernst. I have 11 Monogram speedsters, and 4 AutoArt C12s. My favorites are the ones I have made myself. I started a C7R in 1:24th with a complete chassis while I was Boznia, Hertz. with NATO in 1998. I have not done much since, but I will finish and give to Reeves someday the body has been basically done. I made a Sledgehammer replica in 1:24th and gave it to Ernst in Germany in 1999, he still has it above the front desk at Callaway Comp. I started an LM -001 in 1:24th a few years back but it too is on the burner until later. My more imediate projects are the C7R, LM and the C12R that I want to complete by the end of the summer. I plan to finish the set place them on a slanted base that has a racing surface and a wall saying Le Mans in the background. I plan to make molds of the C7R ,the LM hood and the C12R parts and offer them up when I finish. I wish I had more time to devote to these projects, but I have shifted to the writing for now. Oh, by the way, I have that darn day job too which is very distracting......
As for my photos and literature. I have over 130 articles and clips of Callaway cars and race cars from around the globe ( I cannot read some of them!!). I have been compiling these as well for 15 years. It all started with the Autoweek cover with the C7 and I was hooked. I was blessed to move to Europe in 1996 and was only 60 miles from Callaway Competition. They were right in the middle of the C7R project, I thought I died and gone to heaven. Over the next 3 years, I was able to chronical and photo the C7R and the LM extensively. I moved back to the US for residency, sorry no time for play. Then back to Europe in 2000 for the last 4 years. My first trip to Callaway Comp and they were building the C12R. I followed to Le Mans in 2001 and found a way to gain total access to the track and the paddock. At this time I have almost 2200 photos of Callaway race cars from the LM, C7R and the C12R, and hundreds of others.
I have found some rather rare Callaway items. I found a pencil drawing, schematic of the C7R. I have 6 different sets of original press photos for the release of the C12, but better, I have a set of original photos from the Pirelli test track and the static photos before the wheels were changed. Every picture that was published of the C12 prototype has had the wheels changed digitally. These do not. I have all of the press packets from the C12 introduction, and duplicates of several. I even have 2 Italian "Grandtuismo-Callaway" brochures from the brief association with the Italian parts maker.
I have enjoyed my little collection and hope it continues to grow. I have been working hard on the Callaway Racing Corvette book, but it is a far bigger project than I ever imagined...I have already started thinking about the next Callaway book.....It just gets in your blood..
Have a great day ...mike
