My high school 57 vette

Catbert, here in the office this AM,just looking through first post, saw your quote thought I would let you know what I found on your suggestion.I did call Stone Co.and they sent me to West Branson DMV,that's where the buyer would have to go to register.Talked to a superviser about the method to my madness, was told they could not give out personal info,so close, just keep getting the door slammed. The closest law inforcement is in Kimberlig City,MO,where the car was sold,I did talk to them when I first started this, they sent me to the local convenience store there in Lampie and talk to Bob,he knows everyone, well guess what Mr Bob passed away in June.Door slam again. So I think I will call Kimberling police again and see if they would know anyone else.FROSTRATION LEVEL MACH 2.So what do you think.

Ask the police department for the names of a couple retired cops who were around at the time. Retirees have no problem with the privacy laws that bind cops these days. Sometimes they have fun trying to help, and actually do a little snooping on their own for you. I have seen this work on a number of occasions.

Call the police department in the town. Who would know better about a Vette - they do get a lot of attention in a small venue. You might get lucky. You could even ask to be put in contact with a retired cop who was around in that time period. Explain your situationj. They might want to help.

Lampi is small and unincorporated, so call Stone County.

Catbert, here in my warehouse messing around with my toy's,I thought I would let you know that I did call Kimberling City Police Friday.Spoke with a really nice lady and explained my method to my madness. The senter point of Lampie is a convince store Ha-Bob's,the owner is her best friend, she buy's her gas there, she goes by there everyday.I asked her if she would mine telling her my story about my 57 and that I would call to see if she recalls seeing the car.Sandy said she would stop on her way home,Sandy also lives in the Lampie area and would put feelers out.Have not called yet thought I might give her a few day's to think about it.So thanks again for the advise,by the way are you a cop.Now I have Kimberling Police helping me out.Just keep diggin.

Other options

If you have the vin on the Vette in question, spend some money and grab a CarFax on it. If it's been registered in a state, sold or in some cases things like an emissions test is done on it, they can show up there. Got one on my Vette when I bought it and tracked some of that info back over 20 years thanks to CarFax.

Just an idea

Never would it have occurred to me to try Carfax. I think of Carfax as something you would do to check out newer cars. It's darn sure worth a try "If" he had the VIN, which I don't think he does. :thumb

Hey hcbph, great suggestion, I had not thought of a CarFax,one problem and a major one,I do not have the VIN#,if I did buy know as long as I have been at it,I probably would have found it.Still digging through old records,a old insurance paper would work,VIN# would be on that. You have no idea how tough this is,but, you know what,I am not giving up until I find it.Thanks again for your thoughts much appreciated, any other ideas, fire them at me,I need all the help I can get.

Hey Toms01,nice to here from you again. You are right,no VIN#,makes this chase a little on the bullet proof side.Everyone needs a challenge to make life more interesting now don't we.Still hanging in there, will not quit till its over. Thanks again Toms01.

Hey Ribbit, no problem, I continue to follow this thread and will until the end. I'm pulling for you to find your car. :thumb

There are several of us who are watching. I wish I could offer suggestions but all of the 'good' ideas are already out there...

Hmmm... VINs and insurance papers.... Have you talked to whoever insured you back when you owned the car? They might have archived records?

Another longshot

Here's another idea that might help on the Vin. Do you have an old picture with a license on it? Take that to the DMV in the state it was registered and see if they might be able to help you. If you find something (this way, through old ins etc), then try the carfax idea.

Paul, you really have the old thinking cap on,much appreciated, but you know what,I have about a dozen pic's I took in 67,not one of the rear end.I have gone through all my car pic's if I did take a rear shot, which I probably did,I cant find.Ya know sooner or later I feel I will stumble up on the piece to the puzzle.Keep the cap on the head,I need it.Thanks again Paul.

If you're like my family and I are, you have a shoe box or something comparable where all the photo processing envelopes got stashed and in there were the negatives. Borrow or make a quick light box and do a quick once over looking for the car. Do the same with Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles and see if anyone got a shot of the license on the car. If any of your HS friends or yearbook might have a picture, query them also.
