Thought you all would like a heads up regarding reversing the battery terminals. The car, a 72 and not a 70 as I first thought, has side mount battery terminals. Very easy for someone to make this mistake, black interior, black cables and a black battery sitting in a dark hole behind the driver's seat.
The only damage was the fusible links near the starter. The wire diagram is nearly useless. Hunting the wires is somewhat tricky but in the end it all boiled down to the links. The cargo light was burned out but the diodes and everything else was protected by the links. So if you happen to reverse the terminals get the car up and look carefully at the fuse links near the starter. Thanks to all for the help

Sounds like you're lucky the links went before any damage was done.:thumb
the cargo light will be coincidence, a lamp doesn't care which way the current flows.
