Well after unplugging the wire connection to the 700R4 ont eh driver side and confirming that the wheels will still spin with the brake applied and car still will stall when put in reverse (both on jackstands or off...except for wheel spinning off jackstands) today I plugged the wire connector back into the transmission and decided to start the car and let it run for ~20 minutes.

Well this time I put the car in neutral after letting it run for about 10 minutes guess what? The wheels kept spinning!!! In neutral!!!! then I put my foot on the brake and they stopped. Then I took my foot off the brake and the started spinning again. No change in rpm on or off brake. Then I put the car in park and with wheels not spinning anymore (foot on brake). After removing my foot from the brake I hear something rotate and make a "clack" sorta noise. I guess what ever provides that slmall amount of slack/roll when the car is put in drive is shot, amongst other parts of the transmission.

This is 700R4 number 2 to die. The factory was first ~67000miles and now this one with about 8K on it.

700R4's suck.

That's a bummer :cry Saw you're other post too. 700R4's are actually pretty good tranny's but they gotta be built right. The rebuilder won't stand behind it? Certainly 8,000 mi. ain't right. Have you discussed the situation with them? Hope you get it squared away.

Hey, I saw in your sig that you've got guages on the A post. Have you ever posted any pics and install info on that?

My 700R4 has taken a beating, and it keeps on ticking, literally.

I wonder why.. I hope a 700R4 doesn't cost as much as the one for the wife's Benz

You can buy used salvage pulled Corvette 700R4's for $550 all day long from www.corvettesalvage.com these are not rebuilt, but originals with original mileage.

Tranny shops around here rebuild them for $1000 to $1500 depending on where you go. I ordered the parts and rebuilt my own for around $500 with a lot of high performance parts.

Places like Bowtie Overdrives or the Transmission Center will sell you a built 700R4 that will handle up to 700HP and 700ft/lbs for around $2000.

That sounds about right...a built 700R4 that can handle ~700 hp will cost about $1500 plus another ~$500 for a converter.....

$2K

:(

and what really ****es me off is when I had my transmission built I told the so called Corvette Race Shop, KING SPEED CORVETTE, that I needed a transmission that could handle some power. My 355 s/r L98 made it, but did not really spin past 5500 rpms. This motor makes more hp, virtually equal torque, and spins to 6300 rpms. With a few tweaks I can spin this motor a few hundred more rpm.

Im just disgusted at this point and ready to leave the Corvette Hobby. Seems like everyone does shotty work or is out to screw you.

In my experience, that is the way most shops are going these days.

TNT,
Pro-Built is just down the freeway from me. I called and spoke with the owner a few minutes ago. Nice guy and very knowledgeable. His prices are reasonable. He guarantees his work for 1 year, even the high HP mods. He only does benchwork-no R&R, so in your case you would have shipping. I may buy his HD trans as my car is basically stock. My trans is still good at 104,350 miles.
If you decide to sell your car someone will be getting a great car, and $1700.00 later have an even nicer car. Think it over. Where can you find a car that you know inside/out, with all the mods you have already done, for the money you are going to get for your car?
Just MHO

I communicated with pro built via email and they have a great rep in transmissions. But i'de like to get into another car at this point. Mainly a ZR1. Somebody will get a great car one of these days!

Wow, that is one heckuva car and whoever buys it will get a great car.
