Question: Name of Part

The gear that meshes with the rear camshaft gear to operate the oil pump mounts onto a black, plastic piece which is bolted to the block with a single bolt under the intake manifold at the rear of the block.

WOW, that was a mouthful. Anyway, I need the name of that black, plastic part or, even better, the part number.

I've tried all variations of "Oil pump gear mount" etc., and nothing comes up.

I hope someone can help me with this.

It's called shaft oil pump drive. AC Delco Part #1103868

If you do a google search for AC Delco 1103868 price should be around $32.00

First thing, I have a 96 LT1 and so does my son; so I have two cars to look at. The differences between our two cars - even though they are the same year, are: color, auto-temperature control and radios, power seat option, wheel diameter, low-tire pressure warning system.

Mine is Bright Aqua/ his is Black, I have auto temp/his is manual temp control/mine has dual power seats/his has power driver side only, mine has 17" wheels/his has aftermarket 18"ers, mine has LTPWS and his doesn't.

I looked at my car and there is no un-plugged connector in the area shown in your photos, YET in my son's car, THERE IS THAT EXACT SAME UNPLUGGED CONNECTOR SHOWN IN YOUR PHOTO.

I don't know with certainty, yet, what it does or what option/system it plugs into. I'll have to sort through my "big city-size telephone book" FSM to see if I can find a diagram that identifies it.

My thinking it has to do with one of the options my car has that his doesn't and I suspect its the LTPWS option that his doesn't have.

I believe that plug is used when the car is ordered with automatic climate control. My car has ACC and no plus shows but my son has manual control and he has the plug.

If the 94 offered that as an option, as far as LTPWS, you can track down the option code sheet which, I believe, is pasted to one of the compartment doors in the storage compartment behind the seats.

The other way would be to let a lot of air out of one tire and see if the warning light turns on.

Still another would be to remove the tire from the wheel and see if a sensor is mounted on the wheel (not recommended).

There may be other(s) ways, but these come to mind.

Thanks Jake, I don't recollect seeing any placard on the compartment doors but maybe I overlooked it. I will look later.

Otherwise I will just let air out of the tire. The old brute force method I guess. Only problem is I used to have a compressor and now I do not. Guess I can but a pancake compressor at Home Depot.

When you turn your ignition on, the LPTW light should come on along with all the other indicator lights that go though a test cycle to show that they work.

I was going to suggest that but I didn't know if it would work or not. I had two damaged sensors on my 96 and my LTPWS light was continually 'ON', and after checking on the cost to replace them, I just had to other two sensors removed and then removed the bulb from the dash. It's an option I'm not crazy about anyway.

Try looking under the removable trays in those compartments. It should be there somewhere.

I'd just drive the car to a gas station that has free air with my pressure gauge in hand. Let the air out, fire the engine and see if the LTPWS light comes on, then re-air the tires.

On fire up, does your dash show a LTPWS light? If you have that option you should.

I'll get back to you on that. I kinda figured it would show up on start-up.
 
Paul, the RPO codes should be under the console lid. That's where mine are.
 
Well, when I used a flashlight on the DIC I could see the LPTWS and Tire Flat or something like that lights. When I turned the ignition to the ON position without starting it I saw most of the other lights come on and go out but those two lights never came on so I guess I do not have that system installed in my car.
