....could we have Humpy-Gate later this week?

It'll be interesting to hear this week what everyone thought the problem was.

Go #48

This-coming week is 500 laps on the paper-clip at Martinsville, Va.:
if they tore-up THAT many cars at the relatively 'peaceful' LOWES Motor Speedway, whadaya think they'll do on a .533-mile flat-track with the points so-tight?
:crazy

Tony Stewart had the best car Saturday night and the track cost him. It is unfair that the track can be in such poor condition when the DRIVERS are in the race for the championship. Saturday night was not a race to see who was the best driver, as we all know Tony is, but just a drive around the track to see who was the luckiest.

Of all the choices, I'd say #20. Although for old times sake, #2 or #6 would be cool. I really miss #3. Maybe next year #8 and cousin Tony can return an Earnhardt's name to the Cup.
Regards
Jeff

What a CRAZY Freaking Race . . .

Tire concerns prompted talks of cancelling race

CONCORD, N.C. -- NASCAR officials were so concerned with the rash of blown tires Saturday at Lowe's Motor Speedway that they contemplated calling the event early due to competitor mechanical problems for the first time in the sport's history.

"I cannot remember a precedent," NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said. "I think that was a first."

Hunter said discussion of a cancellation began near the midway point of the UAW-GM Quality 500.

But president Mike Helton instead opted to send pit road inspectors to the teams' pit stalls to send warning that NASCAR would gauge their tire pressures, and if those pressures failed to comply with NASCAR specifications the teams would be subject to penalty -- including points deductions.

"There was serious discussion about stopping the race, period," Hunter said.

Helton reiterated Hunter's statement, saying the night's uncharacteristic circumstances warranted uncharacteristic response.

"In the best interest to finish this event as correctly as it could, we took that step, which was more unusual than we've done in the past," Helton said. "But the evening itself was more unusual than it's ever been."

Helton said no teams face points penalties and NASCAR planned no further reaction.

"We talked about a lot of options, and the enforcing of the recommended air pressure was the one we come up with the try to get through the evening, but certainly we talked about the option of having to shorten the race," Helton said.

The drivers should have taken Humpy and Helton out behind the NASCAR trailer. Very pour judgement on NASCARS part.As a matter of fact it was stupid.Look at the cost of equipment and someone could have been killed-Stupid is the word.

I don't know that it is/was Humpy Wheeler's and/or LMS's 'fault' per-se:
as a track-operator, he only made track-improvements (isn't it a shame that ALL track-ops don't do this? ) by grinding the surface.

Goodyear simply brought a tire that they believed would 'work', based-on what they knew about the track's configuration.

NASCAR could've made the teams run a bigger rear-spoiler package, or even run with NO rear-spoiler, so they'da HAD to use the brakes entering Turns 1 and 3.....

glengages I like your truck window I am a Earnhardt fan too. I raced in the Winston Racing Series in the late 80s & early 90s the fastest track I have ever been on was Atlanta moter speedway. That was when it was a pure oval and not a tri oval like now. I bet it is really fast now. I also like that Bud #8 red vette very sharpe.

..... I recall after the '00 October Talladega race, with the roof-bars and wicker-bills, A.M.S. officials asked NASCAR reps if they, too, could run the same aero-package, in-hopes of seeing action like Talladega had seen, but they were refused.....

Is Edwards hot right now or what?
It would not surprise me to see him sweep Phoenix too!
