Today I discovered that my mid years' sidepipes can set off car alarms.
I went for a little cruise this morning and as I was leaving the neigborhood a neighbor's car alarm went off.

This afternoon, I could not resist and cranked her up again.
As I drove back into the neighborhood, I once again set off a car alarm. I am not speeding (under 30mph).

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Regards,

Pedro

ROFLMAO! My old 71 did the same thing with the chambered undercar system. I usually could barely hear the alarms:L but I could see the lights flashing!

I'm so proud!

Me and the 78 (chambered) set off our FIRST car alarm a few days ago! :D Low speed in a parking lot.

We had a neighbor who moved out but when ever I came up my street his would allways go off.

I never has the C2 in a parking garage yet but My C5 has an aftermarket exhaust thet will set off alarms in a parking garage but not out on the streets

Wait 'til you drive it through a parking structure - sets them ALL off! :Steer

Now there's an idea...

Yup.. the Borlas do that nicely in the parking garage!

On my C-4 if I give it ANY gas while going down to P-3..

It sounds like a Alarm convention!!!

LOL!

JohnZ is dead on. Idling through a parking garage is good for setting off any alarm you drive by. The first time it happened it about scared me to death. Then it took about 10 minutes to stop laughing. It still takes 2-3 minutes to get the smile off my face now. :D :Steer

Oh, yes!
I am enjoying the chambered exhaust to the detriment of my gas mileage! :D

my C4 does that same trick. there is this minivan that always parks in the street that i get almost every day. when i start it up it will set off alarms on cars next to me aslo.

When my car was my driver I used to park at the top of parking garages just to see how many alarms I could set off on the way down.

I learned that if I parked in the garage itself (as opposed to on the roof) that just starting was usually good for a few alarms.

Of course the flip side is that I took a 25 mile open-window cruise yesterday and my ears were ringing for an hour after. :D

Yup,

Have had that happen a few times on our way to and from Cruise Nights. My wife also noticed that I tend to give it a little more gas when going under bridges along the highway. No alarms but still a nice thundering sound.:Steer

You are right, Rich:D

Side pipes above 3500 rpm in tunnels and underpasses:cool

Time can make me older, but nobody can make me grow up;-)

Fuelie,
You are right, we never grow up...our toys just become more expensive.

Rich, accelerating under bridges is a favorite of mine.

Heidi,
Congrats on your new exhaust and your first alarm!
May you have many more to come! :D

You guys have certainly brought up some great ideas!

I have a question though, If I add headers to the mix, will that enhance my "alarm tripping" range? :D

It sounds like "alarm tripping"
may be a city version of "cow tipping".

Thanks,

Pedro

If you think parking structures and underpasses make for fun sounds, you should have heard this one (4" open sidepipes, no baffles or mufflers) going through the mile-long tile-lined tunnel under the Detroit river going to Canada and back :D :Steer ;LOL

Holy rattle my brain, Batman! Can you say earplugs...... or hearing aids? With all that rumble, I hope the tunnel is still intact!

OK Rich....I want your garage!!!! :upthumbs

I have a 1967 that has just been redone (I did nota do it). The barking break will not hold...need help on how to fix it :confused
