Need expert opinion

[BGH]

I have the chance to buy a blue 1992 vette.
Pro's : It is a 6 speed, nice black leather interior,
nice origional paint, 8500.00 asking price

Cons : The tranny wines in neutral, it will slip out
of 4th gear at crusing speed, the seats are not
attached good to the plastic section behind it, looks
it clips in?, the glasstop is gone, clearcoat wearing
off the wheels, 137k miles.

The weatherstriping is gone but owner has all
new weatherstriping not installed. The car does
run good.

Got 10k to put on another vette, always wanted a
6 speed LT1. My question is Do you think this vette
is worth 8500. I know nothing about the ZF tranny.
Any helpful replies would be appriciated.

The ZF will dig very deep into your checkbook to repair.

If you reside in Florida, there are numerous vettes for sale at that price with half the miles, and without the mentioned problems. You might want to assess your desire for a 6-speed. I have heard all the arguments (I own a 6-speed '93 ruby vert). The 6-speed can be a nuisance in traffic, especially on grades. Is it fun to drive and shift.....sure, but I would not limit my search to manuals. As G Winter stated, the ZF is costly to repair, so don't even consider buying a vette with ZF concerns. The vette has so much low-end torque that the automatic performs very well. $10K will buy a lot of low mileage, problem free vettes in today's market, so research your area, meet some nice people, and enjoy the search.

I used to have a 86 auto. I live in a kind of
rural area and of course it will be garage kept
and a weekend only car. Thanks for the advise
on the 6 speed repairs. I was afraid of that.
