Hi Barry,

The car looks to be very complete. The best part about it is that it appears that nobody (including Bubba) has been messing with the car too much before you found it. Finding parts will not be an issue for you and age, combined with poor storage has probably contributed most to the current condition.

Have fun with it. From the looks of it, you have a good solid foundation there. Since you like working on your own cars, this will be a project you can get right into.

Take care,
Brian

well, enjoying working on the cars so far seems to change on a minute to minute basis. At times it's satisfying, other times it's frustrating as hell! ;LOL
but yes, the foundation of the car is solid, it's really just cosmetics that need to be worked on

Barry,

You will find that having one Corvette that is in great shape like your '65, will take the pressure off working on your '78. The feeling that you need it done right now will not be there and the car can sit for a period of time during repairs 'cause you can jump into the '65 and blast around anytime you want:D

Take care,
Brian

that's the problem Brian, the '65 isn't ready for driving yet. I just had to pull the distributor again to get it recurved, and tomorrow the Carb gets pulled again to try to find the leaks, and I have to open up the exhaust again that I just redid yesterday (this will be the 3rd time on the exhaust since Nov)..........
It never ends!

And Just Think.............

I just wonder how many of us that own C3's have put in way over the "sugested retail price" of their Vettes I've got close to $15-16,000 in mine and I haven't touched the paint and the body hasn't been off the frame.
I don't really want to know how much I have put in it cause I don't plan on selling it. I may put a small motor and a 700r4 in it so the Wife and Craig jr can drive it . Then She will start complaining about the paint and then theres more money into it again. ;LOL

I bought mine after the previous owner had a complete frame-off, although that was done a while ago. The car was in excellent condition when I bought it, under the hood, under the body, and inside. It's still in mint condition, but I put over $1k into it every year.....easily.

hmmmmm, I know THAT feeling real well. I bought my '65 about 500 miles after the previous owner completed a body-off restoration and I've had to put a ton of work into it.
Believe me, when somebody says a car was "body-off restored", the immediate next thought you should have is........ "at what quality"!
i've had to go back and re-do MANY, MANY, MANY of the item that were "restored" because they were either done wrong or very poorly.

Now You're Thinking!!!

I'm sure you have my home address but if not I'll give it to you to make sure they get here, and oh, by the way, be sure to also include a self addressed stamped envelope so I can know that they make it back to you after I read them and YOU pay them. All kidding aside, congrats on the new toy, I hope it doesn't take too much $$$ to get it the way you want it so the bride can safely enjoy it.

Lou
I don't think the engine bay should cost that much to do, it's mostly just my own time and labor to clean things up, blast bead a bunch of parts to clean them and some spray paint.
It's the paint that will be the most costly but I'm pretty sure I can get it done for under $4k, possibly only $3k.
:)

As Always

You say the same thing we all do, you're only going to remove the fan, blast it, paint it, reinstall it. After removing it, you say, well when's the last time the water pump was done or the bearings in the clutch fan, the radiator etc. I'm certainly NOT trying to rain on your parade or tinkle in your Cheerio's but you know as well as I do, it's a never ending battle. BUT, key word being BUT, as long as you are having fun, learning and seeing enjoyment from your efforts, it's all well worth it especially for those of us that had to wait a number of years to get our first Vette and not a newer one at that, something that doesn't need as much attention as an older one. With that said, I wish you all the luck in the Corvette World as is possible, an inexpensive restore and more enjoyment than you or your bride ever expected, WITH pictures on a regular basis of course;)

Here's to BG:beer

Thanks Lou, I'll need all the good wishes I can get! ;LOL

you know on my '65 project my initial plan was ONLY to pull the valve covers and intake to clean them and we all saw what happened to that plan..... ;LOL
