I'm a little late to the party but thought I would remind every one of Bob Kroupa over at Vette Values. Just send him an email, bkroupa@aol.com , with as much info on the car as you have and he will email you back with an estimate of what the car is worth...for free! Put "What's It Worth?" in the subject line.

I've used his service a bunch of times and find his numbers to be pretty accurate.

Andy,
IF I did decide to flip it, after it's painted and I clean up the engine compartment, an L82 with less than 10,000 original miles and full documentation would definately bring more than $10k. I'm thinking it should easily bring $15 and maybe more? I just saw another '78 L82 for sale with almost 40,000 miles and they are asking $18k. This one has 1/4 of the milage. I mean, how many documented under 10,000 mile cars that are almost 30years old are around?!
On the other hand, after putting in the work, I may be inclined to keep her and she would make a nice second toy, especially since it's one Linda could drive and enjoy because of the auto trans and A/C. She's always liked Norman's '78 so I think she would like this one once it's done.

Good Luck with it......I understand your point, but unless you find the NICHE buyer who is looking specifically for that year, that engine..you won't get your price..NOT near that price....But, hey I've been wrong many times before and I hope I am this time as well...When are WE getting this baby!
Hey thats a good one...license plate should read;...Baby 2

My Worthless $.02

We have all had the great idea of buying cheap and selling high and unless you're very talented with nothing but time on your hands and a large area to do the work, you're dreaming. It's fine to have realistic dreams but consider this; your 65 is your life long dream and you made that happen. Even though you ran into unforseen things that so far you have been able to overcome, the fact remains they still crop up and will continue to as time and mileage arises. The amount of time and money you may have to put in this car will most likely not justify the profit if any you may see in the end, no matter what you're seeing those cars go for now. The other aspect is if you can afford to buy the car and do the repairs to keep it for your lovely bride at your leisure and as money allows, you now own a low mileage dependable vette that you and your bride can enjoy for years to come. Let's face it, even the new C6's will eventually need something although many miles down the road, it's a never ending battle of upkeep but the enjoyment you get as a reward will outway the few dollars you "might" make as a turn over car. Good luck in your decision but for me, one old Corvette is more than enough at a time, unless of course I hit the big one and at that point all I'll have to worry about is which one do I want to drive that particular day. Just from reading your original posts from the day your 65 arrived up to now, I;ve seen a major change in you for the better. Look at the problems you're having with the carburator, point being, almost nothing is easy or cheap.
Good Luck Barry
You Deserve It.

Hi Lou
how's your transmission holding up for you?

You make very valid points that I can not disagree with you about.
Whether I decide to keep the car or flip it after fixxing it up I haven't decided. Even Linda says that she knows me well enough that after putting in all the work on it to bring it back to the condition it deserves I'll never want to sell it and it WOULD make a real nice "toy" for us, especially her because of the auto trans, power everything and A/C - none of which the '65 has!
as for the fixxing it up and working on it........... unfortunately time is something I have WAY too much of currently so that won't be a problem and i have an extra spot in the garage to spare so the space is there.

hmmmmmmm, just got interrupted by a phone call. you may find it interesting. see my next post! :)

well guys, the owner just called and accepted the price of $5500 that we discussed last week.
It will be about two weeks until I can get the car though. He bought it a number of years ago from his brother-in-law and paid his BIL but they never transferred the title and it's still in the BIL's name and the car is still tagged from IL although it's been in PA all this time so he is sending the tiltle back to the BIL to sign over to me and when the title gets back I'll go pay him and pick up the car.
looks like I'm about to become the 3rd documented owner of a 9489 mile '78.
I guess that means i'll be visting this C3 section more often :)

That's great....I said $5,300 but whats a couple of hundred. Good luck and after reading your posts I have a feeling after you get it to the quality your happy with you will be keeping it for a very long time to come.

Kool thats my Wifes favorite body style the 78-82 maybe someday I'll get her one also.

thanks guys :)

I told Linda as soon as I got off the phone with the seller and she is already really excited.
I tell you, it's going to be so cool seeing TWO vettes in my garage! :)

Congrats on making a deal for the '78, Barry!

You will enjoy the car and before you know it, Linda might adopt it as her favorite driver.

I bought my wife a very solid '78 for Christmas in '96 and we have used it as our "distance" car.

I am willing to bet that you will keep this car. Especialy if it is so solid and original.

Can't wait to see pics of it.

Take care,
Brian

congrats,Barry sounds like a real find!!!!:upthumbs

Thanks Bill
with the price and the low milage I just couldn't pass it up :)

Looking at the pics and also knowing it's not a pace car, I don't think you'd be able to as easily turn it over. To redo the all the paint and clean up that engine bay is likely going to put you over it's resale value...IMHO.

I just wonder how many of us that own C3's have put in way over the "sugested retail price" of their Vettes I've got close to $15-16,000 in mine and I haven't touched the paint and the body hasn't been off the frame.
I don't really want to know how much I have put in it cause I don't plan on selling it. I may put a small motor and a 700r4 in it so the Wife and Craig jr can drive it . Then She will start complaining about the paint and then theres more money into it again. ;LOL

I think I stopped counting near $30K... it starts to lose the "fun-value" when you count. :L Anyways, talking of a C3 (or any restored car), it's hard to have value and $30K in the same sentance, unless there's a not in the sentance as well. :L

Barry, as said in your other thread: Congrats !! Welcome to the C3 world.. Come on in the water is warm (Shark temp!). :L

Andre, i couldnt agree more, sadly.. I stopped counting a long time ago and i havent done too much at all, but just the upkeep and little things here and there.. But after a certain breaking point, you have to decide whether you want to keep it forever or sell it.. Mine: It'll go with me where ever i go. ;)

you know I'll post up progress pics as I start working on it also :)

Barry

Hi Barry,

The car looks to be very complete. The best part about it is that it appears that nobody (including Bubba) has been messing with the car too much before you found it. Finding parts will not be an issue for you and age, combined with poor storage has probably contributed most to the current condition.

Have fun with it. From the looks of it, you have a good solid foundation there. Since you like working on your own cars, this will be a project you can get right into.

Take care,
Brian
