That ring is the biggest PITA ever. I couldn't get it to crimp on the headers, yes I did not have that tool either, so I just used a hose clamp...

A cable clamp might work, is it flanged?

If you can get those in there you are a better man than I. I think the General has a special tool that they use. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about it anymore

If you are talking about connecting the metal line to the Cat (which is a metal line) right at the Cat. I used a metal compression fitting from a local plumbing store, I don't remember the size but it worked great, and was nice and tight.
