I am selling my 1995 and going to upgrade to a c-5. I am looking at 2000-2002 and can't seem to find any real differences. Any thoughts on which of those 3 years had the superior car, or are they enough the same that I should look at condition only.............any differences in standard equip. or options??

Appreciate any thoughts?

Ken,
The only real change to the Corvette line between 2000 and 2002 had to do with the introduction of the Z06 in 2001 (prior to that, it was the FRC, or Fixed Roof Coupe.)

I have heard some early C5 owners discuss oil consumption as an issue. You might try doing a search through the Corvette Action Center Knowledgebase and seeing if you come up with anything else.

Good luck on your search!

I'd be looking for condition as my primary consideration unless a Z06 is your choice - then 2001 is the oldest year.

Each year there are subtle improvements in the Corvette - most of which you can't see. So find one that suits your tastes and budget and have fun.

Be Patient!

Hi

Be patient and you will save a bundle, there are too many C5's out there for sale right now, mostly with unrealistic price's. After a lot of mental masturbation the C5 owners will come around or if not just lose a little more.

But keep in mind that once March comes around the prices should firm up on the C5's. It happens to be an excellent vette.

Look for the best condition with the lowest miles period. The price difference between the years you mentioned is less the $1000. But l would start with 2001.

Your 95 should sell fast if you are realistic about the mileage and condition.

My advice is to stick with 2001 and up if you can afford it. If you find an ealier year that you like look for options RPO JL4 Active Handling (version 1 but still good to have) and option RPO UV6 Heads Up Display.

Driving with the HUD is great. Not having to look down when driving one of these rockets is a lot safer. The Active Handling is also a great life saver. Never turn it off! The AH version 2 (2001 - up) has a Competitive mode in case you want to smoke the tires but it'll keep you from going too out of shape.

When I looked for my C5 I wanted a 6 speed and Z51 suspension option. I found one that was pretty loaded, I really wasn't crazy about all the extra options but figured "what the hay". I bought it and I am very very very happy with it. Its been over two years and I am still pinching myself. This car is incredible. I had two C3 Vettes before this one. I loved those too but the C5 gives me everything I liked about them and a whole lot more. I'm not a gadget guy but after using the HUD, Active Handling and Electrochromatic mirrors I would definetly get these options again.

Good hunting.

Look at this article:
http://www.corvettemuseum.com/specs/2001/overview.htm

Also the oil consumption condition has a lot to do with how you drive not any real defect in the design. Other high performance cars also suffer from this phenomenon.

Just shop till you drop. Use Carfax, Edmunds, NADA and the like to get more info and research like crazy. Patience will pay off in the long run. It took me almost a year to find the one I purchased. I was worth the wait.

Noticed you live in Elk Grove. Avoid Mike Daughtery Chevrolet in Sac. They're way overpriced.
