I occasionally review this board and some of the members who are restoring there c1's are really giving me the bug to restore my "59. I do not have the time to do it, yet but I replace items that wear out. I have owned this car since 67 and it has been on the road every year, the top is now starting to show a lot of wear and tear, small hole on the drivers side behind the window.

I need to replace the convertible top, I live in the Detroit, MI area and called Paragon to see if they could restore the top, preferably without having the car, athey are only about an hours drive. Found out that they only sell the material and will have to out source the work to a local upholstery company in there area.

My question is does any body on this board know of a local shop in the Detroit area that can rebuild the convertible top, I do not need a concours rebuild but do not want a hack job.

Any comments would be appreciated

Thanks

I've ordered the past two tops for mine from Ecklers and had a local auto upolstery shop install it. It's about due again. Just look in the Yellow pages.

Al Knoch makes the best quality.
order the top from them and have it installed locally as the previous poster did

If I was you I would contact Al Knoch, order my top thru them and ask them if they know of a person in your area that installs there products. Hopefully they have a recomendation.

If they dont I would check around to see if there are any local corvette clus and see who there members use.

Welcome abourd

oh, one possible $$$ savings.......
contact Wally Knoch on this forum. He is Al Knoch's brother and a distributor for the Al Knoch products and typically gives a discounted price so it's usually less expensive to go thru Wally rather than ordering direct from Al.

Two that I'd recommend:

Shelby Trim (17-1/2 Mile & Mound, Sterling Heights), (586) 939-9090, Ann Ditri - Manager; they've done a LOT of work for me, including fabricating convertible tops from scratch (no patterns) for my Cobras, carpeting my Grand Sport, installing '67 seat covers, etc.

C.H. Schultz & Sons, 3248 W. Pasadena Ave., Flint, (810) 732-8320, Deborah Schultz - President; top-notch custom trim shop - we used them to install the '58 top on our Paragon "REX" project car for "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine.
