Need your help

I posted this on another forum and got a lot of opinions (none of which addressed the question) but with no help. Here's the situation:
I have the stock LT4 (except for that mentioned in my sig) with the stock cats and stock exhaust manifolds. I currently have no resonator and Magnaflow mufflers. I have enough money to have the resonator replaced and muffler elims made, but not enough to go back if I don't like the results.
What I need to know is, if anyone has the same set up that I'm thinking about doing, if there's any down sides that you noticed. Any significant loss of power or driveability, or is there that "popping" on de-acceleration that happens sometimes with low back pressure.
I'm looking for more volume (throaty) sound without the "p-p-po-po-pop-pop" sound. I did get a few helpful, yet contradictary, email responses.
Thanks for the input!

I had the setup you have the possibility of going to on my '96 CE LT4 (sold) and my '93 LT1 (sold). I loved them. The price is great.

Expect a bit of popping on decelleration with this system... it doesn't sound bad or excessive... under normal driving conditions it will hardly ever pop. it is higher RPMs that will cause it. By keeping the resonator, the popping is really kept to a minimum.

One thing you need to look at are the tips. What look are you going for? You can get a deeper tone with a larger tip, ROUND! Most people dismiss the exhaust tips as just for looks, but they drastically change the sound. This also goes along with the diameter of the pipe. It works best to gradually get bigger with no bottle necks, with the largest diameter the tips. this helps create the smoothest sound. angle cut tips will direct the sound in the direction they are pointing... usually the ground. Square tips choke the sound down.

As far as the driveability... it was great... i felt a power increase over stock. I did it mainly for the sound, and I loved it. I had resonance when I was running the engine too slow for the speed... lets say 45 MPH in 6th gear under accelleration. at 75+ the sound was fine, in town it was great... you can hear it but it doesn't over power the radio or conversation. With the top off and/or windows down, the car sounds awesome! Hope all this helps:)

Thanks

Yeah, it does help. I hadn't thought of tip change. Right now I'm running the 2.5" inlet, 2.5" out into the dual round angled tips. I really appreciate the feedback on the popping circumstances, it's more than I've gotten. I still am on the fence as the up side that seems consistant, is the higher volume and great sound. I wonder if any "adjustments" would make a difference in the popping, like timing (Gee, is it like the old style distributors where you just loosen and turn it?).
Thanks again, and maybe someone else will add before it stops raining and I have a day off :BOW
