Took old sharky to the track on friday night. The track surface temp was 117 degrees and so was pretty sticky. She rewarded me with the following numbers:

R/T .184
60' 2.023
330 5.445
1/8 8.275
MPH 86.93
1000 10.716
1/4 12.786
MPH 108.86

Correcting for the DA of 3700, leaves a sea level 12.2 ish.
Nice to think these older cars can teach the new stuff a thing or two.

Cheers

Thanks Drth, I was very pleased with the run, as far as street tire cars, I was the fastest out there that night, it was a great feeling.

You would be pretty quick for a street driven car at my track, too. Neither one of us would be the fastest, however. There is a Viper and some ricers that run faster. There are also some street legal cars that I suspect only rarely see the street.

I ran a couple of 12.6 @ 113 last Friday night. It was "abouve 6000ft DA" according to the announcer. :D

Wow, with a DA that high, those are some very fine times. I still get a kick out of people calling a 14 second street car slow. They live in a world of their own. My son was running 13.8s in his GTA, and I consider his car pretty quick.

Wow, those are great times! Congrats!

I bet alot of people there were surprised to see you run that fast. Seems strange to call a Vette a sleeper, but when I, and probably most people think of late 70's vettes, 16 second 1/4 miles come to mind. I bet "Holy crap!" was muttered more than once in the stands when you ran.

Oh and yeah, 13.8 IS pretty quick for a GTA. I had one, an 88 with the L98 350 (some came with 305's), and the best I ran was 14.9. @ around 90mph if I remember correctly. I had a few simple mods, but it had over 100k on it at the time and was in need of a good tune-up. A 13.8 is very respectable, it'll give a stock or amaturely driven LS1 a good run for it's money, and most likely beat most non-Cobra 'Stangs.

So I know what you mean about 14 seconds being "slow". I wouldn't brag about a 14 second car, but I wouldn't call it slow either. My just barely 14 second GTA felt pretty fast to me. Gotta love that L98 torque.

Just curious, and I know it's off topic, but what year is the GTA and what kind of mods does he have?

The Density Altitude last week at Bandimere (Denver) for the Mopar Mile-High Nationals was in-excess of 9800'.....

Hi Oldskool, he has all the free mods including hot water bypass, ported plenum cold air intake, and runs 14.9's all day. the 13.8 was with an extra 100 hp in a bottle. He has an L98 also.

Cheers

Oh ok, cool. Gotta love HP in a bottle. I wonder if my Grand Cherokee would like a 100hp shot? :L

The GTA sounds like my car, I did all the free modes too. Advanced timing, ported the plenum w/a Dremel, removed the MAF screens, cut holes in the air filter can for more airflow and was also running underdrive pulleys. They're fun cars, I miss mine.
