Question: new corvette owner of 94 convertible

Hey guys I am new here and have a question on a 94 convertible. In the engine compartment drivers side front by the headlight, there is a canister or a motor

(not sure). There is a purple plug that goes to it. the plug has been disconnected since I purchased it. Seems to run fine but I would like to know what it is. Thank you in advance for your help.

Is the engine light illuminated on your car? If so may want to check what codes are stored. Also, in that location, is it possible it is the evap canister for the fuel tank?
