new corrvette owner

I have recently purchased a 1990 coupe. The car still has the orignal Goodyear tires and I need to purchase new. I do not want to purchase tires for the car based only on price. Any ideas?

Also the drivers side speakers are not functioning, where do I start with that repair.

Thank you

welcome David,
i used to have an 89,the bose speakers have the amps together, there famous for blowing-out,in the tech tips there was a do-it yourself fix with some upgraded capacitors,i did this and they worked for a while, then blew again, when i traded the car in none of the speaker/amps worked.Ecklers has an exchange program, they supposidlly us upgraded electronics to rebuild them, never tried them thou.i was replacing my c4 tires with the Kuhmo extas(spelling probably wrong)good tire,on my c5 i will probably go with the new Falkin tires,i like the low profile tire.good luck,Todd.

Congrats on the Vette! Tire Rack usually has some pretty good deals. The only tires I've purchased from them were BFG Drag Radials but they had the best price at that time.

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center........Great place and alot of good info........enjoy..........:w As for tires I just replaced mine lastyear with BFG.......

Welcome aboard:w I went with Dunlop on the C4 and have no complaints. Tirerack has some good comparitive info and try a search. There have been many discussions on tire types on CAC.

I run Dunlops because they are a sponsor, at least they were until last weekend. 2 DNFs and 2 podiums out of 6 cars and 4 races might change things. I know there are teams with no podiums, but we are accustom to winning and bragging. .:mad :r :cry :puke
Oh well, there is always Jerez F3 on the 31st.

I was given a set of Kuhmos to play with and I really liked them. I pushed them pretty hard in a light rain and they stuck like stink. When I am paying for rubber again these will be high on the list. :upthumbs

Hi,

Congratulations on the Vette', welcome to the brother/sisterhood.

Wow, 13 years on the original Goodyears! You must be getting crazy road noise.

I personally went with the Firestone SZ50's and have no regrets. They're quiet, grip like crazy glue and they were relatively inexpensive. Got mine for $186 at the tirerack.

I'm running the Dunlop SP 8,000's on my 16's. They are an excellent tire wet or dry. Not great at low speed heavy acceleration in the rain but VERY stable and stick well at speed. They were relatively expensive.

I've been hearing a lot about the Kuhmo's though and I found a screaming deal on a set of 17's. I'm going to try them on my sawblades when I put them on:D Welcome to the :CAC

The new GoodYear F1 D3 is getting a lot of good press lately. TireRack.com has them, along with all the other possibilities. That's a good place to look for prices and availability.

I'm using Michelin Pilot Sports and like them a lot. Pricy though.

No clue on where to start on the radio problem.

Welcome to the CAC!

Another vote for TireRack here.

and on the radio speaker, Id try the replacement thru Ecklers, OR, ebay.

Folks do from time to time have wrecked vettes in the junk yard. Might put some feelers out that direction for a used drivers speaker.

good luck

Welcome and glad you are here. Tires I know nothing about. The radio speakers can be repaired by Dr. Don. Go to tool bar and click portal. Look under electronics for Bose repairs. Call him if you want for information. Also Eagle 84C4 also does repairs on speakers I think. Dr. Don just repaired all 4 of my speakers and I am extrememly satisfied with the sevice and the price. Good luck.
