Hello, Just joined the forum...I have a 76 coupe with a slightly modified 350 and 3 spd auto. I have much work to do and have been told by many folks to not spend my money on a 76 but ya know it is near and dear to me and my wife so we are gonna slowly work on her. Look forward to some advice and helpful hints..thanks!

every c3 deserves to have work done to them. :welcome

Hey Panzerman! Welcome to the :CAC
If you haven't done so already, stop by and introduce yourself in the New Member Introduction forum!

As for fixing up your '76, if it's your vette and you like it, then that's all that matters! If there's a different year that you like, then focus on getting that one. Otherwise, "you gotta love the one you're with!".

There's likely nothing that you'll do or want to do to your car that hasn't already been done. And that being the case, feel free to ask any questions here. Someone or multiple people will likely chip in with their 2¢.
Also, make good use of the Search function within these forums. Being as "it's all been done before", there's an abundance of information to be found in previous threads.

What idiot told you not to spend $$$ on a 76.Sharks aren't about HP and chrome bumpers, they are about sitting behind the wheel and looking out over the tops of those badass fenders as you drive down the road.Enjoy your 76.:beer

Beleive it or not a well known Corvette restoration shop here in so cal perhaps he just meant to infom me that I would not be able to change her into a rare collectors item after spending alot of money on her. I dont have the car to collect dust, I want to drive it and relive my high school days of long hair and carefree days!

I have a similar situation with my 79. It was my Dad's. He bought it new. It now has over 100k on it, and I've already put a ton of work into it and it still needs a ton more. If it wasn't my dad's I probably would have gotten rid of it a long time ago, but as you said, it is near and dear to me.

I too am just going to take my time and as I have money to work on it, do so.

Good luck with yours!

Welcome Panzerman

I recently joined this forum as well, and you would not believe just how much help the members have given me, these folks are amazing and trust me they know everything you need to know and then some...they help me find a part for my car, which everyone thought it would be extinct like dinsosaurs. The more work you put into your 76, only makes you love it all the more, and yes, yes drive it everyday, don't hide it away! Pride of ownership is what it's all about!!!!!!!!!!! Vette Gal

I like 76's...I like them all! Some people say the convertibles and chrome bumpers are the most valuable so they recommend against buying or investing in others, which may be true. I actually like the plastic bumper ones just as much. They all deserve to be taken care of and driven. I didn't buy mine for an investment, rather because I love the design and relative ease of still being able to be a shade tree mechanic on these C3s.

Got my 79 on 3/13/09. T-Top, Dark blue, engine from Mexico passibly a 255/350 truck, side pipes, body has 86K, engine about 2k on it.. Neighbor hates the noise. I am in LOVE , also turned 66 17 days after purchase. People who never drove or owned one do not understand the love of any Vette,

:welcome What kind of sidepipes? Some pics please.

Take pride in your 76 !!!! Remember it is the last year it had Stingray on the fenders.. Nobody else can say that !!! And plastic bumpers NEVER rust.

:thumb AMEN. Unless you have driven a C3 then you have no idea what it's like. For me, it took just one five minute drive and I was hooked. I still get the big grin on my face when I drive her. Welcome to CAC! We are here to help.

Congrats!

Once you get in a C3, you're hooked!
